THE BOGUS DEFINITION OF NATIONS’ PROGRESS MADE BY ECONOMISTS! THEN WHAT IS TRUE ‘GROWTH’ OR ‘PROGRESS’?... Economists would say such rich people are needed for the growth or progress of the nation. Well, we still have nations with sky rocketing buildings, large airports, sky railways, big mansions of few, expensive areas, multiple flyovers and yet the people die of starvation! Can such country be called advanced country? What is real advanced country? progressed country? It is the country which doesn’t have the people starving, where all public gets sufficient food and needs are met. It is the country where all basic needs of shelter, food and clothing are met for everyone. It is the country where there are no fraud selfish politicians, the country that has no loans of others. It doesn’t matter if such country doesn’t have the posh infrastructure described above. I call the country that enjoys the contentment and happiness of the masses as the advanced country, progressed country. Beside this, if there is such infrastructure, it is a real advanced country! FOR WHOM SUCH POSH INFRASTRUCTURES ARE? THEY ARE MEANT FOR THE 20 TO 25% FEW! WHAT ABOUT THE REST?... The countries like India and China too have such posh facilities and infrastructures, but just for selected few! If 700 to 800 million people are struggling …show more content…
Despite having taken birth for a short duration on this Earth, they keep struggling whole of the life to acquire more wealth, more land, more cars, more factories, more and more than necessity of anything that they can! The problem is they cannot use or enjoy many of these things either in their life time or after death! So these things anyway are a waste for that hoarder! But it is a curse to keep someone else in lack and acquire more than necessary for whole life. The hoarder cannot live life of peace, joy and contentment, but becomes a victim of greed, needs more and more always! Too much of anything is
Many people do not have the discipline to stop spending money on wasteful things. Just like with a credit card, one is not considered wealthy if they own a credit card. People do not know how to properly manage money. While reading the story of Mr. Friend, one will learn that he owns a lot of valuable things but barely ever has time to enjoy those things and time with others because he is always working. People do not realize that simple little things you buy everyday will accumulate.
Have you heard about some weird billionaires like Bill Gates? Gates is not only famous for his identity of billionaire but also well known for his asceticism. Applying to Pablo Picasso’s words, “I’d like to live as a poor man with lots of money” (515). Live as a rich man but think as a poor man. Living with lots of money does not necessarily restrict humans’ thoughts, if people can adjust themselves well in mental level.
Consequently, many rich Americans believed in this view, and used it as an explanation of why some are poor and some are rich. Additionally, a similar view is expressed in Progress & Poverty, written by J.M Dent. (Doc. 11). In Progress & Poverty, Dent explains that an uneven distribution of wealth will aid social progress, because it will drive people to work harder, which in almost all cases, never worked, and only caused social unrest and strikes. Conversely, some politicians fought for workers’ rights and developed legislation in response.
Although Poverty in the U.S. is minor compared to countries like Niger, Haiti, Yemen, and many more, 14.5% of our population is still living under the poverty line. This might be a small number against other countries, but compared to our immense economy, 48 million Americans under poverty is an enormous number. Within the 48 million, 22% (16 million) are children
John Bodley’s article, “Price of Progress”, argues that America and other developed countries worry about economic development less than developing countries. The economies in developed countries believe that every culture should be full of progress. Progress in economies is defined by how high your income is, how high your standard of living is, greater security and how good your health is. The most common used measure of progress is one’s standard of living. The lowest class of people is the tribal people who have different cultures and lifestyles and they find ways to survive on their own.
In 2014 15 percent of the United States lived in poverty. That means 47 million people were living in poverty! Out of the 47 million 15.5 million of them are children!()Majority of the people that live in poverty are parents who work minimum wage jobs, college graduates who can not find jobs, women and children. More than four out of ten children are living close to the poverty line ()and the government is only helping some. If the government were to supply their programs to every low income family the number could decrease drastically and the economy would also increase.
Right now 16.2 million kids in America struggle with hunger and part of those children are living here in Washington state too and struggling every day.
“There is something profoundly wrong wrong when one family own more wealth the bottom 130 million Americans.” The United States of America has always had economic growth problems. Income Inequality is a big factor for this situation. We are currently in the 21st century and yet we have no improvement on income inequality. In 1984 by George Orwell the low income are the proles who are the incredulous of the story.
Fugen Neziroglu, who writes for, The Anxiety and Depression Association of America says that people with Hording disorder have a problem getting rid of things even if they have no value (Neziroglu, 2015). Because, hording behavior means over buying or over collecting, homes quickly become unsafe, and the mental well-being of the person who is hoarding becomes a concern. There can be financial, social and even legal problems for the person who hoards. Once the community finds out the person is a hoarder, the law comes into play. Yards sometimes become over full of items that the hoarder has accumulated, garages and storage units over flow and most of the time the home of the hoarder is not only full of “stuff” but often times the house is in disrepair.
Materialism In society, people tend to consider material possessions as more important than moral and spiritual values. Will Smith addressed this when he stated “Too many people buy things they don't need, with money they don't have, to impress people the don't like”. Peoples obsessions with material possessions can warp their perception of love, happiness, and even their memories.
Since 1990, the world has reduced the number of people who live in extreme poverty by over half. But that still leaves 767 million people living on the edge of survival with less than $1.90 a day.2 The numbers of world hunger has gone down by a lot, but yet world hunger is still going on. Some of the poorest countries in the world have few to no jobs, and the few jobs that there are, are paid very little each day. Survival is key to these people and with the little money they have, it’s hard to do that. Across the globe, conflicts consistently disrupt farming and food production.
One of the problems playing a great role in this confusing web is poverty. According to the Oxford Dictionary, the definition of poverty is “the state of being extremely poor”. Now many people might think, “So what? Why should I care?”. Well one thing is for sure; we, people, should care.
And found the main difference to be the infrastructure. As a result India has built 3,355 miles of highways, 150 billion on infrastructure, 50 billion on decrepit airports, ports, and roads, 75 billion on power plants and another 25 billion for telecommunications. India is, “the fastest-growing free-market democracy in the world,” said Nath. “China is winning the sprint, and we are going to win the
INTRODUCTION Economic growth is defined as the increased capacity of an economy to be able to produce goods and services in comparison from one period of time to another. This is figured by the genuine Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and development, and is measured by utilizing genuine terms such as “Balanced Inflation”. These terms help to remove any distorted views on the perceived outcome of inflation on the cost of merchandises produced. Likewise, Economic growth is related to the high expectations in a person’s standard of living. If the standards are high, it wouldn’t be beneficial for the economy as the working class individuals will face a lot of trouble.
Never the less, it’s ironic how in the 21st century we prize ourself for being progressive when almost half of us - over 3 billion people - can’t even conjure up what life is like beyond ‘the poverty trap’ they are in. We prize ourselves, when one out of every two children is poor. Can you imagine growing up as one of the 640 million kids whom have no adequate shelter, let alone a place to call home? Or the 400 million to whom safe drinking water is simply a figment of their imagination? Or maybe the 270 million who have no means of getting health care?
