1.0 Background
In modern day, information can be available at the tips of our finger, through the application of smart phone, tablet, laptop, and desktop. Having the internet facility, we can access vast body of knowledge at anywhere anytime. Internet enabled the linkage of a computer to any other computer anywhere in the world through the standard Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP).
Wireless technology enable human interconnectivity from almost anywhere; at home, at work, libraries, schools, airports, hotels and restaurants. Wireless networking is known as Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) or 802.11 networking as it applies the IEEE 802.11 technologies. The advantage of Wi-Fi is that it is compatible with most operating system, game device and advanced

Wi-Fi is one of the the preferred modes of internet connection all over the world since it is mobile. While in the same time connecting us to the sea of information, it allows us to connect and search the vast source of information through our communication devices. To access this connection, we must have a wireless adapter on the computer or the specific communication devices. Wi-Fi provides wireless connectivity by emitting frequencies between 2.4GHz to 5GHz based on the amount of data on the network. To start a Wireless connection, it is important that the wireless router is plugged into the internet connection and that all the required settings are properly installed.
1.1 Problem statement
Due to increased usage, the size of data transmission becomes bigger and bigger day by day. Efficiency of our data communication depend on the speed of the internet, thus better performance Wi-Fi is required so that we can get the jobs done faster. Unisel has provided Wi-Fi connectivity to all the students so that student can use it for their study purpose. University has thousands of students living in the hostels, without a good Wi-Fi performance in these area will certainly cause serious connectivity problem to

A five story building, with each floor having twenty four occupants and most of the student possess two smart phones with a laptop/desktop. This means just a single five storey building will have approximately three hundred sixty devices that are always connected to the Wi-Fi system. The environment is a space of about four thousand square feet land, having interference or ‘overlapping’ of so many WiFi channels. This situation certainly induces floor noise, which result in low speed connectivity.
Thus the current scenario demands the study on the performance of WiFi in Unisel student hostel, in order to identify the root cause of the problems which cause depletion of WiFi performance.
1.2 Objective
• Analyze the factors which cause Wi-Fi performance depletion at student hostel using Ekahau Heat Mapper.
• Calculate link budget of Wi-Fi from collected data to determine the efficiency of current Wi-Fi at student hostel.
• Propose better alternative options for improving the performance of the Wi-Fi in student hostel area if the analyzed data shown any ineffective link of budget outcome.
1.3 Scope of study
Analyze the student personal broadband channel and university routers channel in Unisel hostel. This analysis will be conducted at male student hostel, block B, range from B1 to B4, at all
Assessment 3 – Assignment 1 Student Name: John Matanisiga Student ID No: S11124727 1. The difference between these wireless encryption is that WEP is wired equivalent privacy, a default procedure for wired security networks, WPA is an upgrade from WEP, and it is a wireless protected access to networks, whereas WPA2 is modernized into a more secure Wi-Fi from WPA. 2. With Static addressing, a computer (or other device) is configured to always use the same IP address, whereas dynamic addressing, the IP address can change periodically and is managed by a centralized network service.
The main difference of a WiFi to Token ring and Ethernet networks is that it does not require a physical media from the source to the receiver to create a network and establish a connection, although WiFi would not compete with speeds of data transfer of an Ethernet. A WiFi connection is made by using a wireless adapter(that converts digital information to radio waves and back with antenna) to create a hotspots that allow access to internet service. WiFi technology is using 802.11 networking standards (802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11n etc. ) that will depend on needs for the user. In wireless networks there are two logical typologies that are use, a star and point-to-point (devices connect directly to each other and do not need access point device to communicate), in general WiFi speed is on average 20Mbps, however it can vary on many factor like distance between users and source or media radio waves has to travel through on the way to the user and
Appling changes like these will speed up network traffic and data transfer for all teleconferencing needs of the office, avoid signal interference by nearby devices or in cases of need to penetrate solid objects such as wall, the 2.4 GHz interface could be used again, make sure non-overlapping channels are selected. Rapid problem resolution could be performed via any Windows OS equipped device, a router on the same network could be accessed and re configured via the
6. True or False: NetStumbler can check for wireless networks and their signal strength, review which channels are being used, and then compare competing networks to monitor interference. 7. Wireless networks were identified by drawing
Dear helpdesk My name is hashimoto I want to ask something about TS and TM, please confirm the info below: Protocol number: CNTO136ARA3004 Study: JJ90061 Site: 081047 This study will use TS from Sep, MIFI and cable cannot be used in this site. I received a manual about how to set up WIFI. But I cannot understand it very clearly, could you let me know the details about how to do this?
This will also lead to the building backbone network. Also, known as the distribution layer, because it will be distributing network traffic to and from the LANs. Now those that we have the wire network it’s also recommended to have a wireless network in each building because many students will be using their own devices. We can simply set up 802.11 (WiFi) since we already have a wire network the campus should get by to support the users.
5. A wireless access point (WAP) allows devices with wireless capabilities to connect to a network without the need for any cables such as Ethernet. 7. DTE short for Data Terminal Equipment, a device that controls data traveling to or from a computer. 8.
Wifi WPS: It stands for “Wi-Fi Protected Setup” and provides simplified mechanisms to configure secure wireless
With just a few connections, MacBook Air transforms from an ultraportable notebook to a complete workstation. MacBook Air now supports ultrafast 802.11ac Wi-Fi. When connected to an 802.11ac base station, including the new AirPort Extreme and AirPort Time Capsule, you’ll get wireless performance of up to 3x faster than with previous generations of the MacBook Air with 802.11n. And, your Wi-Fi range improves as well.
• ICMP; is one of the main rules of the internet protocol suite. It is used by system devices, like router, to send error messages showing, for example, that a demanded service is not offered or that a crowd or router could not be touched. • DHCP; Dynamic host configuration protocol is a customer server rules that repeatedly delivers an internet rules (IP) address and other linked arrangement information such as the subnet mask and avoidance entry. • Bluetooth; Bluetooth is a wireless communication technology that lets people to usefully connect their plans with other policies “and “the character of the technology is developing to not only allow devices to talk with one another, but actually allow the all-in-one communication between devices, native requests and the cloud.” •
Hi all I would like to let all of you know, that all the IT request that you had have been taking care of, I have performed the hardware maintenance to the network and computers and everything should be ok. also, I have been working on meeting the HIPPA compliance for our network and there are some initial points I have been working on 1. I have set up the computer to lock the screens after 5 minutes time of inactivity, this will ensure that computer session are closed when the user is away (is still a good idea to lock the computer every time is not in use) 2. the server room need to have a server shelf or server rack that will keep the It equipment out of the floor.
Wireless technology is used for data transmission. Wireless technology carries a particular information from one place to another. Examples of wireless technologies are a remote control because while you’re using it, it sends control commands information to your TV making you want to change the channel or record a particular programme. Another example of wireless technology is a wireless sound system because it sends audio information to speakers and headphones. Bluetooth is a wireless technology used for the exchanging of data over short distances.
The wireless router however, wireless router is a device that will perform the same function of a router but also includes the functions of a wireless access point. This means that the wireless router will allows a laptop, phone or tablet to wirelessly connect to the home network and access the internet as
It could start with shorter intervals, like every 15 minutes, and gradually work up to every 30 minutes or more” ("A School's Way). Because it induces less separation anxiety and still allows students to communicate with their friends and parents. Even though banning cell phones reduce distractions in the classroom, phones should be allowed in the classroom, but restricted to school work because it offers more learning opportunities and gets kids excited about learning. By researching for this paper I have learned the benefits and the negative effects of technology, both in the classroom and in the outside world.
GLOBALIZATION, TECHNOLOGY AND LAW Globalization and Technology Globalization has completely transformed the way in which the world and its people interact. Earlier there were several roadblocks in the ability to communicate and interact with the people worldwide. But now, the world is becoming more and more globalized in all spheres: Business, financial, social, economical, etc. Over the years, a lot of technological advancements have come into picture including the changes in the field of Information Technology, having a significant impact on the global landscape.
