Is Homeschooling an Ideal Way to Obtain Quality Education?

Each and every parent wants their child to have the best education possible. To many, this may come in the form of public schools. This may be due to the lack of positivity associated with homeschooling. However, according to a federal government study done in 2012, over 1.77 million students nationwide are receiving a homeschooled education; since then, it can only be expected that the numbers have continued to grow rapidly as more and more parents choose homeschooling over public education. As the adults in control of their child’s future, all parents should consider homeschooling over public school.

It is a common myth that parents who homeschool their children spend much more on education yearly than a parent who sends their children to public school when, in fact, the opposite is true. The government spends around $10,000 on a national average per student each year. The cost of homeschooling one child is about $600 dollars for each curriculum. When homeschooling multiple children, many families also share copies of books, saving much more on textbooks than the average classroom. Another misconception of homeschooling is that only families with higher incomes can teach their children at home. Most homeschooling parents typically are well-educated and make an income above the federal poverty level for their family size (Time4Learning). Some argue that only public school can teach hands-on learning because of the equipment schools use and the multiple class projects assigned. This may be true, but with the child’s ability to learn at his/her own pace at home, it may not be necessary to purchase such
