Benefits Of Nanotechnology

Nanotechnology is the engineering of functional systems at the molecular scale. The study and building of matter and molecules is involved. This happens at the scale of 0.1 to 100 nanometers. A nanometer is a type of measure and an idea of is its equivalence would be a strand of hair which is 50 000 nanometers in terms of diameter and a nylon fibre which 30 000 nanometers. This should give a clear picture of how small a nanometer is. Particles of a few to or hundreds of nanometers in terms of diameter have some distinctive physiochemical and surface properties and that allows them to offer themselves to innovative uses like water treatment, medicine, energy, agriculture and many more.

To add to that, using nanofilters is also more efficient and they have extremely large surface areas and can be easily cleaned when compared with conventional methods.
Carbon nanotubes have been shown to have an equal or faster flow rate in comparison to larger pores. This could be because of the smooth interior of the nanotubes. Nanofibrous alumina filters and other nanofibre materials remove negatively charged contaminants at a faster rate in comparison to conventional filters. The negative contaminants include the likes of viruses, bacteria, organic and inorganic colloids. In both examples the advantage of using nanotechnology was of course the faster flow rate.
Risks that are associated with the use of nanotechnology procedures to purify water include; this procedure being quite costly. Since this form of technology is still new and not so many companies are manufacturing the membranes this could possibly be an expensive endeavour. On top of that the membrane filters are going to have to be changed regularly depending of course on the level of contaminants water.
For different nanotechnology procedures there are disadvantages and these will be listed …show more content…

The reliability of this is not that high however everybody needs to start somewhere in order to achieve something great. I feel like the reliability of this is quite average because prior knowledge as well as extensive research was used to try find solutions to a long term problem. This was enough to get us to the answer of nanotechnology and with more testing and research then the methods that led to the arrival of this solution will be classified as appropriate and
