There is a wide scope for improving the fuel economy of cars at high speeds through reduction in aerodynamic drag, which can be achieved by changes in body shape etc. Aerodynamics is now engaging the attention of all car designers, because of its potential for overall fuel economy, without sacrifice in its perfomance. Cars don't fly, but they drive through air that provides resistance to their movement. Aerodynamics addresses the force of air on the objects moving through it. Designing a car with good aerodynamics positively enhances its ability to accelerate resulting in better fuel economy. The easier it is for a car to move, the less energy the engine needs to push the car through the air. The most well known early model car, the Model T, was not at all aerodynamic, but was incredibly popular. Chrysler tried to introduce an aerodynamic car to the public in the 1930s, with a design based on birds in flight, but the public considered this shape unattractive and didn't buy it. In the 1930s, cars didn't have great acceleration anyway, so the value of aerodynamics wasn't a consumer priority. So what is going to be the future of automobiles ? Some of it will help keep us safe, some will give us information like never before. 1] Cars that communicate with each other and with the roads. A developing technology called Vehicle-to-Vehicle communication, or V2V, is being tested by automotive manufacturers like Ford as a way to help reduce the amount of accidents on the road. 2] Self-Driving Cars. The idea of a self-driving car isn't a new idea. There are cars which can park themselves. But a self-driving car is a one which can drive itself without any assistance. By using LASER, RADAR and camera, the cars can analyse and process information about their surroundings faster than a human can. 3] Energy Storing Body Panels. Body panels can store energy and charge faster than conventional batteries of today. The panels would capture energy produced by technologies like regenerative braking or when the car is plugged in overnight and then feed that energy back to the car when it is needed. Toyota is also looking into lightweight energy storing panels. 4] Pure Oxygen
