COMPOSITES IN AEROSPACE INDUSTRY 1. INTRODUCTION Aerospace industry is one of the example man’s skill and precision engineering. Flying, every year millions of people take to the air. In the last 10 year alone 50% of increased passengers, just one of the reasons for airlines to look at one of the bigger and high capacity aircraft. At present most of aircraft are manufactured by 2 companies in the world, one is Boeing in USA and other is Air bus in France. There is a big competition between these two companies which led to evolution of new cutting edge technologies. In which latest and currently the biggest commercial aircraft in the world is Airbus A380. It can carry 800 passengers with payload of 560 tones and it take majestically into air. In bigger plane like A380 particularly during takeoff and landing enormous amount of forces acts on the wing. 75 % of engine thrust is developed by fan blade and 1.2 tons of air sucked into engine in every second. At extreme conditions, the tips of wing may disorder up to more than 7 meters. These kinds of forces can handle by using special steels and aluminium alloys but weight is expensive. Thus we require engineering composites have very high strength and/or stiffness to weight ratios; therefore, they require less mass and take less space to support a given load in comparison to other material choices.
