Sometimes it is daunting to learn another language but imagine trying to learn it at the age of three and learning your home language at the same time. This seems unrealistic but many children actually have to do this. In reality, it seems crazy to be doing this but they are actually helping their future selves. Though there can be some drawbacks too. Foreign languages should be taught to students earlier because it is easier to learn at a younger age, it allows for the student to become multilingual easier, it has cognitive benefits, it can make a better future for the child, and it has already been a success in other countries. A main reason for why foreign languages should be taught sooner is because it is easier for most children to learn it at a younger age (“Laying Down Bilingual”). Foreign languages are easy for children to learn because their brain is still developing which lets them easily absorb the language with practice (Caruana). The children learn quickly by playing games and by copying what they see and hear (“Advantages and Disadvantages”). The children are also able to easily pick up on the pronunciation (“Laying Down Bilingual”). Along with pronunciation, the children can understand the comprehension of the language easier (“Laying Down Bilingual”). Another reason for why students should be taught foreign languages at younger ages is that it paves the way for the children to be bilingual or even speak three or four languages (Glod).
