Functional
The functional structure focus on principles of specialization where people will be grouped in broad business activities such as marketing, production, human resources and finance. It is an organizational structure formed by grouping together all activities into functional departments and putting each department under one coordinating head. Each specialist have functional responsibility and are permitted to direct and control the salesperson through their immediate superior. Functional structure is well suited for larger organizations with diversified activities and operations that req1uire a high degree of specialization.
Advantages
Functional structures results in occupational specialization as a particular department is only concerned with one aspect of activities and workers receive the expert guidance of specialist. This promotes efficiency in utilization of members as employers performs several tasks within the department and are able to improve performance.
One of the advantages of a functional organization is that grouping employees by specialization ensures that employees are dependable and it also creates a health competent work place. This is so important for large organizations that have many functional levels within company as employers will be able to perform their duties which boost the production.
Disadvantages
In functional organization, each group perform their duties independently from other functional groups, but sometimes that can fail. As

Looking at society as a whole with individual units that work together to make society function efficiently is the structural functionalism concept. Each unit has a part and is describe as institutions such as family, religion, education, politics, economy and inequality. Because structural functionalism looks at social structure and patterns of behavior it is able to create values for society. As well as, distinguish between visible and suppressed problems within the social structures that may need to be addressed. For instance, homelessness is indication of dysfunction in structural functionalism system.
There are three different forms of functionalism such as the analytic functionalism, physchofuctionalism and machine-state functionalism. Analytic functionalism is the most common of them all, it describes the function of a job description of mental states. The second from is physchofunctionalism in which opposes to the idea of behaviorism and saying no to the physical aspect of the mind. The last form of functionalism is the machine-state functionalism in which was founded by Hillary Putnam. Putnam was an American philosopher whose ideas were based on the apologies of mind.
Structural-functionalism or functionalism, are groups of individuals who advocate, or work according to the principles of functionalism. The show however, portrays behavior that is clearly not functional and could be considered dysfunctional for society. But, there are examples of groups of people or individuals who work together for the well-being of the town. Google employs a Functional Operational Structure. Google is managed from the top down and divided into different divisions by each Google product that is offered. Structural functional theory is a broad perspective in sociology and anthropology which sets out to interpret society as a structure with interrelated parts. Functionalism addresses society as a whole in terms of the function of its constituent elements; namely norms, customs, traditions and institutions (Vibha Desai, 2013).
Structural Functionalism is a sociological theory that tries to clarify why society functions the way it does by concentrating on the connection between the different social institutions that make up society (e.g., government, law, education, religion, etc.).
