Hatchbacks in India A hatchback car is one that is flat on the rear followed by a fifth door in the back that opens in the trunk, in contrast to normal boot sedans. A hatchback car body is configured with the tailgate that swings upward, ensuring access to the cargo compartment. Hatchbacks may star fold down second row seats, the interiors of which can be flexibly reconfigured to prioritize passenger to cargo volume. Many vehicles such as SUVs, minivans etc incorporate the same fifth back door, making it a liability, however, these aren’t hatchbacks because of their sizes. Secondly, given the recent outburst of cars in India and the ever menacing lack of space in metros like Delhi, parking is a problem that always keeps us on our toes. However, given the huge number of hatchbacks available in the Indian market today, picking a best would be a question most of them would want to dodge. Though, there are several serious contenders for this title like the Maruti Swift, Hyundai i20 etc. The Indian car market has flourished owing to the growth in the hatchback segment. From being affordable and low-maintenance to becoming a style symbol- rich in features with top class performance, the Indian hatchback arena offers a wide array of choices. The result, more and more customers have started to sit up and take notice . Deciphering the need of the hour, car manufacturers are not only willing to offer advanced comfort and convenience, but are also keen to make it easy on the pocket.
