International adoption has some advantages to it that domestic adoption doesn’t. International adoption process is easier and shorter than domestic adoption, which can take up to a year. In international adoption you can choose which gender of the child you would like, where in domestic adoption you can’t. Another advantage for international adoption is you don’t have to wait on the birth mother to choose you; you can choose the child and proceed on with the adoption process. Domestic adoption is a long draw out process. In domestic adoption the adoptees have to pay for the expenses of the birth mother, whereas in the international you do not have to pay for anything to do with the birth mother. Also in domestic the birth mother has up to one year to change her mind and come back and get the child. In international adoption once it is done it is final unless you would like to change it. Then you have to go back through the whole process of getting it undone and why you would like it undone. Domestic adoption also cost more than international adoption. Domestic can cost anywhere from 20,000 to 35,000 dollars to adopt. International adoption cost anywhere from 30,000 to 50,000 dollars, depending on the age of the child that you would like to adopt.(Independent Adoption

A period of grieving is” (Renne 465).

In adoption, people believe that race matters due to their ethical or cultural beliefs; however race does not matter because every child needs a loving home. Additionally, studies of multiracial families show that kids are more aware of their culture, as well as they are more like the community around them, then their ethnic background. There are many adoption agencies, and others with the beliefs that kids need to be with parents of the same ethnicity because it would provide the child with more cultural awareness, as well as it would prevent children from the danger and backlash they might get from others. Couples and individuals in the U.S when looking to adopt can expect to pay as much as $20,000 to $35,000 for a healthy infant in the U.S. Most couples and individuals though, simply don’t have that kind of money laying around, and not to mention the cost has to be paid up front, there are no governmental loans or payments that people can make. For this reason alone many people are forced to give up the idea of adopting in the U.S because of the extremely high cost of a child. Not only is the price a heavy burden to face, but also the process of adoption can take as long as 1 to 7 years in the U.S. This is an extremely extensive amount of time to go through the process of adopting, expecially when it only takes 6-24 months internationally to adopt a healthy infant or child, and can be cheaper. Another issue of turmoil in the adoption process in the U.S is comparing each states laws and agencies, because each state is independent and has different adoption laws.

Most TRA studies are done in the United States of America (USA) where there is an increasing trend of TRAs. In the USA, from 1999 to 2013, the total number children adopted from China and South Korea is 91,002, comprising roughly 36% of the adoptions (Bureau of Consular Affairs, U.S. State Department, 2013).
Institutionalisation can also severely affect a child’s development, but this can sometimes be recovered when the child is adopted. The child’s physical features like height, weight and head circumference can suffer during this time. Also, cognitively a child’s IQ can be off a normal range if adopted around their 3rd birthday but when it comes to school performance the cognitive performance can lag cognitive competence. Also, when it comes to emotional development, a study of Romanian adoptees demonstrated that attachment was affected if the child wasn’t adopted before they were 12 months old compared to secure attachments likely to be achieved before then, but babies adopted under 6 months showed normal attachment patterns during early childhood.
