TITLE:
Mini Hydro Plant
INTRODUCTION:
Mini hydro project propose for hydroelectric power installations that generate electricity which is cost-effective and reliable energy technologies to provide clean and green electricity generation. The amount of power generated depends on the amount of water flow, the height of water falls (head) and the efficiency of the plant to convert mechanical energy to electrical energy. A water turbine uses the velocity of the water to move the runner and discharges to atmospheric pressure which covert the energy of flowing into mechanical. The water stream hits each bucket on the runner, which drives generators to generate electrical power. The electricity generated transmitted to a substation where transformers increase voltage.
Weir is a dam with notch through which the entire stream flows. The flow calculated by measuring the depth of water flowing over the crest of the weir. The higher the head, the greater the power given amount of water will produce. Gross Head (H) is the maximum vertical fall in the water, from the upstream level to the downstream level. Flow Rate (Q) is the volume of water passing per second, (m3/sec). Weirs are divided into many different types according to their …show more content…

Thus, the higher the dam or head, the greater the power a given amount of water will produce. So when the velocity of the water flow is high and the rate of rotation of the turbine increase. The turbine mainly uses the velocity of the water to move the turbine. As water flows into the bucket, the direction of the water velocity changes to follow the contour of the bucket. The pressure of the flowing water on the turbine blades causes the shaft to rotate. Thus allowing the water flow to continue without interrupted. Bernoulli equation can be derived from the principle of conservation of
