DISCUSSION OF FINDINGS
5.1 Introduction
In this chapter, data presented in the previous chapter is discussed and findings are considered in relation to the aims and objectives of this research. The discussion of findings, hence, is laid out in two main parts including findings on the benefits of differentiated instructions on learners’ speaking in mixed-ability classroom as well as the challenges teachers may have while using it.
According to the data analysis of questionnaire, and the interviews, some points are drawn out as follows:
5.1.1 Findings on the learning and teaching conditions:
This research was completed with considerable results achieved from the students’ feedbacks through questionnaires and interviews. The result revealed that because there was not very significantly effective in applying differentiated instruction due to the low ratio of using it, the improvement of the speaking was not much recognized.
From the results of questionnaire and interview, almost all teachers and students affirmed that the students at Viendong College did not have the same English ability. This is due to the fact that they have different motivation, interest, needs, their English

In the mixed-ability classes, students have more chances to learn from one another, they can seek new information and enrich their general knowledge. Yet, the disadvantages of mixed-ability are also obvious. Most teachers admitted that it was an extremely hard work to manage the class and the lesson effectively and it was definitely difficult to meet their students’ needs. In addition, sometimes the students hesitated to participate in the activities they did not like although others might enjoy that moment to the uttermost. Schuman shares her personal experience of teaching and dealing with different kinds of students in hope that her intended audience will learn a lesson of the importance of class participation. Her views are very instructive, truthful, and encouraging to all college students. The article was elegantly well written by Schuman, who directed college student how to take part in the course and benefit from it.
If a school consists of only one type of race or ethnic group, then the students are isolated to the ideals of that specific community. But if diversity exists, the opportunity arises to learn about different cultures and become more well-rounded. This is illustrated by Owen and his best friend Dave, who is white. Even though Owen and Dave are two different races, they do not let that prevent them from being friends. They use their differences as an advantage to learn from each other and to help each other out.
Ability Profiling and School Failure by Kathleen Collins illustrates how Laura’s generalizations and lack effort to understand Jay hindered his ability to grow throughout the school year. This lack of understanding in the complexity of Jay’s learning experience reveals a greater systematic issue. Laura constantly blamed Jay’s behavior on his upbringing and labeled him as emotionally impaired. In this complex situation Laura did not look at all the possibilities for Jay’s performance in school. She had a preconceived idea of Jay’s abilities, which led her to her harsh treatment of Jay.

The teachers need to understand the instructional designs and how to apply these. In executing this effectively the learning process should expose the utilization of theoretical frameworks, student centered learning, collaboration, culturally fit (diversity), awareness of different learning styles and reflective practices (Tuitt, 2003, p.251- 253). The diversity of student backgrounds, abilities and learning styles makes each person unique in the way he or she reacts to information. The intersection of diverse student backgrounds and active learning needs a comfortable, positive environment in which to take root. Dr. King continues by explaining, “Education which stops with efficiency may prove the greatest menace to society. The most dangerous criminal may be the man gifted with reason, but with no morals.” From back then to today’s society, kids are failing because they lack those morals that they need to succeed.
1.1 Introduction In today’s environment, the ownership is on us, as an individual to take responsibility for our own development, rather than expecting our organization to do it for us. The question, which always ponders over mind is does my personal skills suits to today’s dynamic world? If not, how do I move forward? Hence, the starting point is to introspect, retrospect and do an evaluation through self-assessment tools in order to know myself, strengths and limitations and my ability to perform in dynamic roles in the business environment.

Being deemed high performers; gifted children are capable of intellectual, creative, artistic, leadership, and other specific academic fields, and may require extenuating resources other than services offered by their school. The characteristics of high achievers and gifted students are also often misconstrued. High achievers are very similar to that of a gifted student as it relates to the cognitive aspect of learning.
The majority of the general public has preconceived ideas as to what a person’s race is based solely on appearance. In general, it can be difficult to identify a person’s race just by looking at their skin color. In each race, there are many variations of skin color and to make it more complex and difficult, not to mention people who are of mixed race. Historically, race has been divided into four categories: black/African American, white, Asian/Pacific Islander, Native American/Alaskan Native.
According to the Suitcase Clinic organization homelessness means a temporary condition that people fall into when they cannot afford to pay for a place to live, or when their current home is unsafe or unstable. (Suitcase Clinic Organization ) Main reasons being homeless: cyclical nature of mental health/ substance abuse, unavailability of affordable accommodation-waiting lists for public housing and lack of reasonably priced houses. I spent my fifteen hours observing two special education classrooms at Sulphur Intermediate School. One focused on math and the other on reading, though many of the children I observed worked in both classrooms. The students were in the third, fourth, and fifth grades. Most of the students had mild to moderate disabilities and simply needed extra help in reading, math, or both subjects. They did not stay for the entire day, but rather came for certain periods.
Mindset is a scientific proof that shows both the potential of the brain to grow and change. It is divided into two categories: growth mindset and fixed mindset. Each people have different responds to challenges. There are people who can still stand and fight despite all of the failures. Likewise, there are people who are less resilient and tend to give up easily.
In today’s world where the survival of the fittest is the norm, it has become critical to sharpen soft skills along with hard skills. Although disabled people are a minority and they are normally ignored, they are still a part of the society. The statistics show that the proportion of disabled people in the world rose from 10 percent in the seventies of the last century to 15 percent so far. The number of handicapped exceeds a billion people all over the world, occupied about 15 percent of the world's population, as a result of an aging population and the increase in chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, blood and psychological diseases that are related with disabilities and impairments.
