Thus, interactions with people and socializing via the Internet came to our lives not only with its benefits but also with maleficence. The Internet is a technological advance that provides people to reach everything online. Nevertheless, the Internet is used to socialize. This thing made life easy but people kind of lazy because so many people seem to stuck at home willingly, instead of going out to make a change during the day. They may not catch the bus or the flight or they may not attend weddings or funerals. Moreover, the social networking sites kill some quality time causing it to go to waste instead of working. Also, that addiction may be the reason of lack of intimacy since friends do not invite each other or meet in public reflecting the concerns of maintaining a genuine relationship. One of the disadvantages of social networking sites is loss of sincere feeling that bring shallow, pointless, emotionless conversation or superficial dialogue. The other one is having less face-to-face interactions. Because communications became mostly virtual and online. Connections necessary within an office and even in a family have been lost. Spouses and siblings rarely seeing each other’s faces or coworkers, colleagues not spending some time together unlike they used to do. These are the main consequences and bad side-effects of the websites. All in all, social media and those kind of websites such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram make people less social based on the fact that it ruins most friendships. So, what are we supposed to do in order not to make that happen to save relationships and
To further convince the reader, Ludden uses a study referenced in a journal by the credible Duke University psychologist, Jenna Clark. The study addresses college students and how the more Facebook friends that freshman had, the less socially adjusted they felt, whereas with seniors, the more Facebook friends they had, the more socially adjusted they felt (Ludden). This was due to a majority of the freshmans' friends being friends from high school or back home, whereas most of the seniors' friends were friends that they had made in college, therefore they were more connected with them because they interacted with them both online and in person. This study makes it easier to understand how the effect that social media has on you fully depends on your use of it. It makes sense that one would feel isolated and less connected to their environment when they are spending their free time connecting with those who aren’t around them.
I disagree with Dailey’s results; strong friendships and bonds can be created over social media. Some people lack the social skills needed to make friends with their next door neighbor or the person standing next to them in their local market. “Facebook may not replace the full benefits of real friendship, but it definitely beats the alternative” (Dailey 144). For these people, Facebook is the perfect venue to get to know someone that they

With facebook becoming so big it makes it easier for everyone to talk through that. Even if you don’t have facebook most social media sites offer ways of conversation with other people. Most people in the country own computers and if they don't own one they have access to them through school or even a local library. The internet is becoming easier and easier for anyone to get access to with all of the places that offer free Wi-Fi, which is why it is no surprise that we have become dependent on the internet and all of its services. If you want to meet someone now you usually meet them online.
Have you noticed when you walk into a restaurant or any public outing where the main focus is to conversate with the person you are with, but the whole time both of you are just blindly scrolling away on social media? This has become such a problem in our generation and it’s all thanks to the great technological advances we have made in the last couple of years. With how far technology has come in the short years it started ramping up, where do you see yourself 10 years from now? A smart phone connected to your brain like a chip? This is what M.T Anderson thought when he wrote his novel FEED.
I felt that this was a very important piece of information to factor in when coming to this conclusion. The increasing lack of human interaction with one another is causing society’s social skills to slowly fade away. When asked, most people would say it is easier to talk and interact with somebody online rather than in person. Interacting online creates a sort of distance, like an uncanny costume, that can isolate one from humanity. I feel as if the internet has affected today's generation, including myself, the most.
