Vince Lombardi said individual commitment to a group effort-that is what makes a teamwork, a company work, a society work, a civilization work. It’s not easy to make the team members to commit with the work that was provided. So, there are few stages that we can used to make our work with group work and done properly. The four stages are Forming, Storming, Norming and Performing.
Forming is the first stage, group is build; sometimes we build a group without knowing each other’s. And when in one group, we get to know each other, also known as ‘ ice breaking ‘. This stage is appropriately named because of the intragroup conflict. There’s conflict over who will control the group and what the group needs to be doing. In this stage, my group and I don’t have so many problems, argued or fighting between us. After discuss the topic, our leader who is Hafiz, give a good idea want to do Batik Art at Central Market, Kuala Lumpur. Without, any argue we agreed with him. Then we continued with our goals and the tasks that need to be established. Not only that, we are making strategy how to shoot video for batik art. Our group problem is making an appointment with the artist. It’s not easier for us to contact the artist, but one of us, Felicia doesn’t give up to call the artist and persuade to approve our appointment. After at all, the artist accept our appoinment. So, we decide one date to go there to see the view, and the process of shooting the video. Hafiz is willing to be a cameraman for our group, while Fateha, Dyana and Ismat donate money and do the batik as their experience. In this stage, we learn how to work together, we also learn about other member’s abilities. So we will help each other when they need us. The group structure is in place and accepted by group members. Their energies habe moved from getting to know and understand each other to working on the group’s task. In this stage, our group work hard toward goal. We are not doing the task last minute, as our leader focuses on the group and always follow up the progress. So, we wont be a last minute workers. However, members are flexible and help each other. When we done with our task that have been given, we help Hafiz and Felicia to settle up with the video and slide. The tasks get accomplished effectively and efficiently. So then, we are preparing some speech to present in front of the class. On the presentation day, all of us feel nervous to be present. But Hafiz told us not too nervous just relax, because we already done all things together. Besides, leadership is shared according to members’ knowledge and skills when it comes on presentation. As we are in a team, I believe there are couple things need to be sure before we start the work. So we can follow the rules, and get good score on our projects. First thing is about our team overall goal. I believe that everyone in our team want to get into Kelley, or already in Kelley. To be successful in Kelley, all our projects need to get the high grades.
All members of the groups were on different levels of acceptance with who they are as a person and the process expectations. Although members on different levels and stages of steps, they all had the same commitment goal. They all accept who they are because prior to members speaking the have to state their names and admit their problems. After being chosen as the President of National Honor Society, the most active club at my school, one of my duties was inducting the new members each year. I remember the butterflies in my stomach as I looked out at all the NHS members and their parents sitting in the huge auditorium. Starting college can be one of the best times in young person’s life. However, it may be one filled with apprehension, angst, and confusion. Adjustment to college life is vital for all students, though the manner and amount of adjustment faced by each undergraduate will fluctuate contingent on a student’s upbringing, life-experience, and former education. Consequently, the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning (LGBTQ) community knows this all too well. Therefore, the college counseling center will be offering a series of therapy groups for the incoming freshman that identify as part of the LGBTQ community in order to help them adjust to college life, the separation from home, and the stress of classes.
The Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meeting at the Book Study Unity Club gave off a welcoming atmosphere. The environment was very family oriented and seemed to be a place of acceptance and redemption. Overall, the group process was extremely functional. There were a two leaders, one was the leader for the particular chapter the other was the leader of the particular meeting. In the beginning, the leaders both gave their background histories on how they were brought to AA.
During the norming stage, cohesion is established, conflict is resolved and members have good understanding on each other’s roles in the group. Members develop a sense of belonging towards the group and the leader could emphasize on harmony and unity to ensure the wellbeing of the group. This is the stage where the members are finally ready to start working together as a team and strive towards achieving the desired goals. Next, the performing stage emphasizes on problem solving and the completion of the task at hand. Member are committed towards their goals and are able to tackle any issue in a mature ways.
In order to accomplish missions and tasks successfully, teams must be cohesive and unified, as well as meet and exceed the standard. In order to build teams, leaders must develop teams through three stages, formation, enrichment, and sustainment. The first stage, formation, is the stage in which the initial team is built and comes together for the first time. The second stage, enrichment, is the stage in which team members gradually grain trust in themselves, followed by their peers, followed by their leaders. The final stage, sustainment, is where teams are fully invested in their teams, and are proud of their group.
3.Choose one aspect of your presentation and tell me how you will work to improve it for your next presentation. Be concrete. Offer suggestions that you will use for improvement. I always get anxious before giving any speech or presentation. I may not maintain eye contact with the audience to cop up with my anxiety.
In essence, teamwork can be defined as a group of people working in the same direction and for a common purpose. Teamwork requires individuals be a team player and to be able to work well with others; after all, there is no “I” in “Team”! As with any endeavour, we faced some initial setbacks. With this being our first college team assignment, we were all treading on unfamiliar territory.
For example, we might have to run more in practices, in games the opponent may score, or a teammate could get hurt. Having the skill of communication, is the first step in teamwork. My self-perception is that I have that deer in a headlight look to myself when I’m in an uncomfortable position. These are things to remember for when I have to interview for a job, that what I may think and feel, isn’t always reality. Last semester I had two group presentations. I am sure that there will be more of them so this class has prepared me to feel more comfortable and be more prepared for when the time comes.

Teamwork is the most crucial part of a group assignment, as it is often necessary for colleagues to work well together, trying their best in any circumstance. When a group's members believe that their contribution and knowledge sharing are positive and meet important individual needs, the central characteristic of group efficiency is being demonstrated. Individual commitment to a group effort is what makes team work.
