The Civil War was fought between the Northern states and the Southern states because each side of the nation wanted their own freedom and rights. The war was evitable or avoidable because the North wanted to preserve the Union and the South also wanted to preserve their ideas on how the unified country should have existed. After the Revolutionary War was fought, the two sides should have gained knowledge on how to work together as one United Nation. The arising action in the South took place when the Southerners believed that they had the right to leave the Union. The South wanted to secede from the country to gain independence, and it would allow them to keep slavery legal in their “own country”. The South did not have the right to just …show more content…

The North then decided, that they wanted to fight back to preserve the Union. The North did decide that they were going to fight to try to preserve what the South may or may not destroy. Northerners could have tried to work things out with the South by proposing a compromise that would have made both of the sides happy. Even though the North had the larger population, they had very little knowledge about the South’s land. This was a major disadvantage because the South is where almost all of the Civil War’s battles took place. Another advantage that the North had was they had many factories because their part of the Union was industrial, while the South was more agricultural. The factories helped the North to produce weapons, uniforms, and other supplies that may have helped their army. The North had many railroads, that did help them move from place to place faster than the South could. The North’s military leader was Ulysses S. Grant, he helped them both offensively as well as defensively. The North definately had a lot of positives that helped them throughout the war, but they did also have their negatives. They could have used these strengths to work at making a compromise with the South that would have avoided the whole Civil
