Pros And Cons Of Tidal Energy

748 Words3 Pages

Tidal energy is produced by the surge of water in the ocean during the rise and fall of tides. The rise and fall of tides are created by the combined effects of the moon sun and earth’s rotation. The timing and magnitude of tides are influenced by the alignment of the moon and sun. As there are different forces affecting tides they can act in different ways. For example, at certain times all of the forces would be in alignment and have the same gravitational pull. While others due to the earth’s rotation and the sun and moon moving they pull in opposite directions. This constant gravitational battle between the sun and moon, will sometimes pull the sea out which causes low tide. Or will pull the sea in causing high tide. Many forms of energy come from coal, oil, natural gases and nuclear power plants. Nuclear power plants also run the risk of radiation. These sources are being drained rapidly and also environmentally damaging with fossil fuels being released into the atmosphere. There is an urgent need to change this and substitute old energy sources for renewable ones such as tidal energy. …show more content…

Unlike other renewable sources it is not responsible for the leaking of fossil fuels or harmful substances leaking into the atmosphere. Tidal energy has many benefits as a source of energy. It is on of the most predictable forms. A downfall would be the cost, also more research must be put into it
