Raising concerns against a colleague within your setting is always a very sensitive issue as this can cause or lead to victimisation within the workplace from them and others. However, when working with children and young people their wellbeing outweighs the importance of relationships with other colleagues and the children and young people safety and well-being should always come first. The outside world and we all may agree that whistle-blowers are heroes and should be looked up to and thanked for revealing corrupt behavior in the workplace, but for some insiders from the workplace and hiring companies may see them as disloyal people for not keeping the company or the organization’s secrets and practices hidden to the outside world and putting negative attention on the setting or organisation. Working within our school setting  we work in an open and transparent manor This includes ensuring , all doors have glass panels in or be left open so that we can be seen as we teach, this is set in place to discourage any false allegations of occurrences of abuse as it can be disproved and can also protect teachers them self from having abuse. By doing so we are allowing open teaching which can dissolve any accusations made by either students or staff. Listening to children-  All staff members to ensure they make time to listen to their pupils as it could raise concern regarding the child’s welfare as when a child is willing to speak and feels comfortable and safe enough to open up it is the staffs duty to ensure this child is listened to and taken seriously.

If a child alleges harm or abuse it is vital that the person that they tell are trained to deal with this effectively so that the child can be reassured that they have done the right thing and that the allegation can be acted upon. The school at which I work provides regular Safeguarding training to all staff which refers to policies such as Keeping Children Safe in Education, as well as providing practical advice to all staff in the event of a disclosure.

There have been several attempts to define whistleblowing, but certainly there is no generally accepted definition.
