Introduction
Leadership in organizations requires understanding of human behaviour in order to be effective; the general definition of leadership in the twenty first century is multifaceted, include personality perceptive, behaviour perceptive, and focus on group processes (Northouse, 2013, pg, 5). Importantly, the definition highlights components of leadership as; a process; involves influence, occurs in groups, there are common goals. Basing on leadership components it is the process of influencing a group to achieve a common goal (Northouse, 2013, pg, 6). The leadership strategy employed depends on the assumptions made about human nature; as a result, two leadership theories were formulated in 1960s by Douglas McGregor

On situation may need a leader to exercise autocratic decision-making style while another situation may necessitate democratic decision-making style. Generally, dictatorship and democracy cannot be used at the same time; one must prevail over the other in any situation. Importantly, theory X is ideally used where the decision is likely to face resistance, there manager decide and pass the decision to employees as a condition. However, liberal decisions are made in situations where there is enough time and the decision is not
In developing this paper on leadership, I examined what was most important to me as a leader. As I reflected on my leadership philosophy, I thought about my experiences and the principals that I have learned through my own self-discovery and the observation of other leaders that I have had throughout my life. My leadership philosophy paper will focus on what leadership is to me, core values, and knowledge of others. In thinking about my definition of leadership, I thought of what was most important to me in and as a leader.
Coercive- The coercive leadership style was first mentioned by Daniel Goleman in conjunction with the six leadership styles defined in his theory of Emotional Intelligence. The Coercive Leader is the person rules by fear, coercive leader demands immediate compliance. The coercive leadership is most useful in the time of crisis like in a company turnaround or a takeover attempt. The coercive style can also help control a problem teammate when everything else has failed.
HOW LEADERSHIP BEHAVIOUR MAY INFLUENCE GROUP DYNAMICS IN ORGANISATIONS 1.0 INTRODUCTION The purpose of this essay is to explain how leadership behaviour may influence group dynamics in organisations. Leadership behaviour is the behaviour; a leader exhibits (Malik, Aziz and Hassan, 2014) and according to (Malik, Aziz and Hassan, 2014) (House et al, 2002) leadership means an ability to influence, motivate and enable others in a way that they contribute towards the efficiency and accomplishment of the mission and goals of organisations which have employed them. On the other hand, this essay involves the study and analysis of how people interact and communicate to each other in small groups.
1.1 ELON BACKGROUND OF MUSK Elon Reeve Musk is a Canadian American businessman, engineer, and innovator born in South Africa, June 28th 1971. Elon Musk is one of the most notable innovators of the 21st century. Elon’s academic achievements in regards to higher studies began with 2 Bachelor’s Degrees, 1 in physics and the other in economics, and he would, soon after, enroll in Stanford university to begin a PhD. Leadership Analysis Introduction One of the popular definitions of a leader is, "The only definition of a leader is someone who has followers." ( ) A more comprehensive definition that highlights striking features of a leader is, "A simple definition of leadership is that leadership is the art of motivating a group of people to act towards achieving a common goal.” ( ) A closer scrutiny of the characteristics of an influential leader would many ways assist one, in recognizing those attributes in an attempt to assimilate the best in others.
Leadership has been defined in a variety of ways, there are multiple authors and theorists who have tried to define and understand leadership, all leading to varying theories and conclusions, but one thing that is universally understood is the importance of effective leadership and how someone with good leadership skills can impact so many people around them. (Kakabadse and Kakabadse, 1999; Yukl, 2002; Northouse,2013) The main components that have been identified to play a role in leadership are relations between leader and subordinates, interaction form between leader and followers, the influence that the leader has, the way in which the leader behaves and finally a leader’s traits. Conceptual Understanding of political regime The word regime refers to a set of circumstances, most frequently of a political nature, such as a government. In politics, a regime is the form of government or the set of rules, cultural or social norms, etc. that regulate the operation of a government or institution and its interactions with society. While the word regime originates as a synonym for any form of government, modern usage often gives the term a negative connotation, implying an authoritarian government or dictatorship.
In this regard, leaders and managers can appear at any level of an organisation and are not exclusive of each other (Germano, 2010). Leadership theories identify leaders based upon traits as well as how their influence and power is used to achieve organizational goals and objectives (Germano, 2010). As such, trait based characteristics include leaders such as autocratic, democratic, bureaucratic and charismatic. On the other hand, leadership that is viewed from the perspective of the exchange of power and its utilisation to secure outcomes, are situational, transactional and transformational leaders (Germano, 2010). It is of paramount importance to consider the different types of theories of management and leadership and their potential impact on organizational strategy being that management and leadership plays a vital role in the success of businesses.
Individual Reflective Paper Introduction Leadership, a controversial concept, has been studied for centuries. Scholars who study leadership have argued with the insight of leadership for many decades and finally promote a wide range of understandings of it. This course “values and leadership” introduces the basic principles and concepts about leadership, and provides us with some conceptual knowledge and practical approaches to be an outstanding leaders. I chose to take this course because I am interested in the topic about leadership.
Vugt et al. (2004) stated that in autocratic leadership style, employees are not involved in decision making, it is only leaders who decide what to do and how to do. While in democratic leadership, leaders allow employees to involve in decision-making process. Their involvement can be participative or consultative. In lassies-faire style of leadership, Leaders don’t exercise their control over employees and employees have freedom that they can do what they want without any hurdle.
Through self-reflection and academic readings, I have discovered that I identify with three different leadership theories. During the first meeting in a Strength Based Leadership class, we were asked to write our leadership history. The class then began an ongoing exploration of various leadership theories. Upon reviewing my leadership history from the first class and synthesizing the information from the theories that were examined, I discovered that I most resonate with the Trait Leadership Theory, the Skills Leadership Theory, and the Path-Goal Leadership theory. These theories are leader focused, describing the process and techniques a leader uses to accomplish goals.
This paper is going to encompass different leadership theories and their relevance to my own personal personality and method of leadership. There will be information on the advantages and disadvantages of the leadership theories and information on each including examples. The purpose of this paper is to view various kinds of leadership theories and apply them to a real-life scenario. Leadership Theories There are quite a few different leadership theories available for people to take information from and use in business settings and even personal settings.
