The traditional school schedule is an 8 Hours a day, consisting of 7 or 8 courses of about 50-55 minutes each. An advantage of traditional scheduling is that educators see all scholars every day which benefits students Ability to retain information that is given. Traditional scheduling also seems to benefit Students with disabilities. In addition to that Students have a greater memory of classroom methods, such as recalling which supplies to bring to class and the due dates of class assignments. Also with traditional scheduling, there is a diversity within classrooms. As for the block scheduling method, it organizes a section of the daily schedule into the extended blocks of time in class which gives students more time to complete work than rush through it. The primary idea behind this new scheduling theory was that by redistributing the school day into longer and more manageable Class periods, school curricula on a day-to-day basis would become more in-depth and education skills would increase. They both benefit students in different ways. For me, I like certain classes more than others so block scheduling gave me more time to be in that class but for traditional what if my favorite class wasn 't that day traditional scheduling gives me a chance to be in that class regardless of how much time I have. For both methods, you do home a tremendous amount of information to carry around and retain. A student will be getting eight credits a year. GCA should have block scheduling instead of the traditional seven class periods a day. Block scheduling is a good idea because it allows students to earn more credits, have more instruction time, and allows for more time for extra-curricular activities. Allowing block scheduling in our school would help the stress level among the teachers and students. It would also help to create a better atmosphere within the school, and change the environment in the school.
For example, my cousin does not have block schedule at his school and he said that he never gets the one on one connections with his teacher and sometimes needs more time with the teacher. He also said that the teacher doesn't always have time to finish the whole subject, which puts them behind in class. This example shows that because of not having block schedule it give them limited time in class not being able to complete a full topic. This causes them to fall behind and their grades could eventually drop. This proposal is beneficial to both students and teachers.
Under the year-round calendar, it may be more difficult to schedule activities such as sports, or band, due to the constant schooling, and frequent breaks. According to the National Education Association, “... extracurricular activities, like sports and band, may be more difficult under the year-round schedule” (Text 2,2). This text states that scheduling may be difficult for some activities under the year-round calendar; however, that may not always be the case. Schedules for sporting events, band, and other activities could easily be fit under the year-round schedule, because there are still weekends, and frequent breaks that activities could be fit under the year-round schedule, because there are still weekends, and frequent breaks that activities could be fit under. In conclusion, the year-round calendar has many advantages over the traditional calendar; such as, decreasing student, and teacher burnout, while also decreasing the amount of time spent reviewing.
Scheduling can become a hassle with year long schooling as teenagers are less likely to receive a job. Even, after school activities may suffer, as it can become difficult for the school to maintain the costs of having a sport and maintaining the costs of the building. This can cause many missed opportunities for the students, as sports can allow for a person to go to college, and a job can allow a teenager to receive important skills that can be used for later jobs. With year long schooling, the maintenance costs can increase upwards to 10 percent if they are open longer (Pros and Cons). Also with this schedule there is a need for more staff in the school, which increases labor costs (Pros and Cons).
Good Morning, A popular topic in Aiken County School District for the past year or so has been 'block scheduling'. I understand that on Tuesday, March 14th, many district officials will debate about making a school year with a block schedule format. I would like to give you my input so you can see a different perspective, the perspective of a student. One reason that I wouldn't look forward to a block schedule is the extensive attention span required.
The NEA (national education association) says, “Students have more time for reflection and less information to process over the course of the day.” Meaning students more time to learn the same amount of information they would learn normally. Doing block scheduling is preparing Parras students to go to high school. RUHS’ schedule is all classes on Monday, even periods on Tuesday and Thursday, and odd periods on Wednesday and Friday. I would like our middle school to do the same.
Because of a four day school week, classes are extended, therefore giving the teachers a longer teaching period. Charlene Heil, a business and technology teacher says, “I actually have been able to get more done. When you have a longer time period you can have more depth of instruction.” The conclusion can be drawn that teachers and students like the four day school week that they did a better job, and their productivity was
The day that we don’t have school could be the day that we could make up work and turn in assignments online on classroom. A little homework for each class would help out a lot. Teachers want to teach students and have them know all the knowledge that they teach and maybe use it in the later day lives and longer days with longer periods would let those teachers take their time teaching their subjects. This also allows students to take their time in getting their toughest work done. The class periods would probably be over an hour long but longer school days is a must if you for sure have four day weeks.

There are 24 hours in a day, 8 of those hours belong to school. From the moment when a student wakes up, they begin to prepare for school then go to school, most schools start around 8:00-9:00 am, so most students get up 1-2 hours earlier to get ready. Students need at least 8-9 hours of sleep to be able to function. With students having after school activities that take up around 2 hours, students are exhausted and when they get home all the want to do is relax, but some of them have responsibilities that they have to do, which gives them less time to relax from a long day of school. On top of having homework students end up staying up late getting all their work done, which cause them to be less focus the next day not allowing the
Four-day school weeks have the capability to change student lives. Every school should invest in the four-day school week plan. Implementing this routine would allow teachers more time to teach and give students the option to do their homework during class, in turn creating student success. All of these factors would help to enhance student and faculty life, while promoting success in the classroom. Having a school system run on a four-day rotation would increase their success by offering more opportunities for lesson and work time.

The hours in a school day should be shortened for high school students. The long drawn out school day can cause stress and sleep deprivation. The normal high school day is seven hours long, not including extracurricular activities that students participate in. Extracurricular activities do not allow enough time for homework and their studies. The student’s limited availability won't allow them to balance school and extracurricular activities ,especially with a seven hour school day in the mix.
