Conveyor belts equate to speedy, efficient, and money-saving methods of loading and unloading cargo. “Conveyor belts allow the use of an automatic system for loading/unloading operations and the highest efficiency, reducing trucks traffic on the quay and relevant risks”, these are the words of John Bensalhia as he investigated ways of innovating the humble conveyor belt.
The most innovative conveyor is the piped one which reduces the risk of the wind blowing the powdered cargoes like cement, coke etc. This conveyor is really effective and is more productive for windblown dry bulk cargoes than a conventional conveyor, getting the job done in a lesser amount of time.
Grabs, on the other hand are ideal systems of technology that are of great importance for loading and unloading bulk cargoes on the terminal like grains etc. The gantry type is used for unloading bulk cargoes like coal.
Special measures and precautions must always be taken when carrying out activities on the dry bulk terminal to ensure efficiency, security and …show more content…

In order for the work area to remain safe on the terminal, railways, roadways and walkways should be strategically built to improve productivity but still maintain safety of lives.
• Dangerous cargoes should be contained, identified by name, handled with care and stowed efficiently, meeting the IMDG (International Maritime Dangerous Goods) Code. “The code also ensures that the goods transported through marine transport are packaged in such a way that they can be safely transported”, (MI News Network, 2017)
• Machines are the most effective pieces of apparatuses used on the dry bulk terminal to effectively load and unload the vessels with precision. Nonetheless, defective machines are very dangerous on the line of duty because this may cause loss of lives or very fatal injuries. Also, if a machine is 100% functional but the user is not a trained individual in that field to operate it, then it is just as bad as using a defective machine due to the incompetence of the individual.
