Formwork is essential for concreting. It plays vital role in overall project performance. Even though formwork has such importance it is least researched area in construction industry. From centuries we are using wood as primary material for formworking purpose and even now. Using wood as a formwork material has advantages as it can be cut and fixed in any size and shape as per requirement, it is readily available, cheap etc. However, disadvantages of wooden formwork are more evident in this age of urbanization. After industrialization there has extensive deforestation over the last century. This has caused environmental imbalance and results are visible to in the form of global warming and climate change. ABS is acronym for Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene which is supposed to be hardest plastic know in the world. It is usually used in car bumper in combination with poly propylene (PP) or poly vinyl chloride (PVC). ABS is recyclable and reusable making it environmental friendly and sustainable. System is consisting of fixed panel sizes of varying dimensions. For locking purpose high tensile Nylon handles are used. Panels are classified as GeoPanles, Star Panels and Circular panels. Star panel also called as adjustable panels, this single panel can be used to construct different shapes. Features of ABS Plastic Formwork: 1) Light weight – Being a plastic it is very light as compared to other formwork system i.e. wood or metal formwork systems. 2) Accuracy- As the sizes of the panel are fixed accuracy achieved by this system is high. Moreover, due to handle locking system exactly 90 degree angle is achieved. 3) Modular- It can be used in various combinations. With star panel 105 combinations can be achieved. 4) Load bearing capacity- It has highest load bearing capacity amongst all formwork systems. This system is used in laying foundation or to level the slab surface in case of inverted beams. Due to maximum height requirement is satisfied by Module’s height there is significant concrete and steel saving. Elevated formwork can be raised up to 3.6 metres. Using elevated formwork system in parking slots one can save concrete cost significantly. Space beneath the parking can be used to store runoff water. Defender- It can be used as a shield for shear walls which are typically underground.
