With the fast-paced globalization together with the internationalization of the world, the greatest barrier that hinders people coming closer together is their language. Language, as defined by Ludwig Wittgenstein in his book Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus, is what confines our world. By integrating the foreign language electives to the New General Education of UP, it does not only broaden the knowledge of UP students in different foreign languages, which is the medium that connects people together, but it is also a way of widening the scope of their worlds.

Looking at the current state of Filipinos, due to their curriculum where the language of teaching is divided into two: Filipino for History lessons and English for Math and Science courses (Trent, 2013), they are nurtured to be bilinguals. The skills developed from living in this kind of environment gave them an edge in the fast-paced globalization of the world. For instance, because of being fluent bilinguals, Filipinos have a higher probability of being hired overseas, opening greater opportunities and economic benefits for the Philippines.
