Introduction The hospitality industry is the fastest growing, self-renovating and self-sustaining service oriented industry at present. No other industry has such amount of customer interactions at this level. This is possible only through the interdepartmental coordination which happens and which is one of the most important aspect of successful operations in the business. Front office is one such crucial department in the hotels. It is often regarded as the ‘nerve center’ of the hotel property. The first one is direct payment booking through fax, telephone and e-mail. In the practicals we learnt the approach and technique of guest booking of different profiles like company booking, travel agent booking, group bookings, long staying guest booking, conference booking etc. each of them having different methods. We also had to complete the reservation by replying to these mails as a front office executives of Vivanta By Taj Aurangabad, keeping in mind all the procedures, do’s and don’ts. For example, if an individual is asking for contracted rates on the telephone, we would apologize and deny the request as per the standards. We will also not disclose the travel agent rates or company rates to the guest instead we can explain the transient rates only, which are available publicly. While booking visitor gives his credit number for his certification about arriving, on the off chance that he doesn't arrive, the propelled sum is been blocked. At Arrival stage welcome beverage and different offices are given and front office individuals check their ID's and if it’s a foreign guest then VISA, Passport are checked and C form must be filled by guest then staff individuals give their regarded rooms key. Another example: For a diplomat which is a government appointed official luxury taxes are not applicable for the given duration of stay only, which they can avail by providing the tax exemption certificate. If a diplomat has an extended stay, luxury taxes for the extra day would be applicable to him/her. Conclusion The practicals conducted were of extreme importance for us to understand the basics of Front office operations as well as the PMS systems such as Opera which will help in the future studies for me. As front office is considered as the nerve of hotel operations, it is important to enhance the knowledge regarding the topic for becoming a developed professional with required skills in the hotel industry.
