However, it is impossible to know what the future holds and where importance will be placed and interest held in the coming years of the technological revolution. Therefore, there is no guarantee that when a significant amount of jobs are taken over by technology, there will be a rise of jobs in the arts and humanities. On September 20, 2016, John W. Burton talked about, Using Math in the Real World: what your professors won’t tell you about life after graduation. John Burton talks about his experiences after he graduated from Longwood University on how he used his degree in mathematics. First, he talks about bucket of marbles and goes thru what an athlete, art, and math majors would do with the marbles. Each major would do something different with the marbles athlete would play a game, art major would make a sculpture, and as math major we would count and organize them then find the probability for the different marbles. As math majors, we use problem solving to solve are problems in school and in life.
In “Is Your Child Ready For College Math?” the author builds an argument that many students may not be prepared with the mathematics skills to be college or career ready. The author uses reasons such as the fact that students may have taken insufficient mathematics courses; that they may have taken the wrong courses, or that students have not mastered the skills required to be college and/or career ready. The author provides supporting evidence from the text and compelling word choices to strengthen the logic and persuasiveness of his argument.

Seika McKee Dickens ENGL 1113 1 OCT. 2015 The Hidden Education in the Poor Perhaps one of the most valuable opportunities in life is education. In a conversation between Adam Howard, associate professor of education at Antioch College, and Arthur Levine, president of Teachers College at Columbia University, in “Where Are The Poor Students,” some subjects at hand are the availability or unavailability of opportunities, the missed value of education, and the irrelevant comparison of test scores directed towards the poor students.
Growing up as a young girl I was always told that my attitude was perfect for me to become a lawyer – I never lost an argument. I took the advice and I ran with it. I boasted about becoming a lawyer. I started to research the various types of lawyers, their median salaries and the amount of years it would take me in school and to advance in my practice. Although I was focused on pursuing a career in the law I was also intrigued by the medical field.

Scholarship Essay – Favorite Subject From cooking to financial planning, mathematics is used in nearly every aspect of our lives, and it is essential to the success of many everyday tasks. Math is my favorite subject in school because of its countless uses in everyday situations, necessity in businesses and the economy, and how it challenges myself and others to solve complex problems. One reason mathematics is my favorite subject is because it can easily be associated with numerous everyday tasks. Sure, not every lesson acquired in class is going to play a role in a future career, but many of the skills learned will be put to use at some point in life. For example, it is essential to use math skills when baking to ensure that the ingredients are properly measured out, otherwise, the end result will not be close to what is expected.
The Heart of a Professional At first, participating in this essay writing contest seems to be intimidating for me. I expect only the leaders and achievers to be the ones who are known to be most professional in the things they do. Also, I know I still need to learn a lot about being professional at work. But as a Young Christian, I want to share my insights and experiences. I want to give back & thank my Maker.
William Paul Thurston, a well renowned mathematician, once proclaimed that Mathematics is not about numbers, equations, computations, or algorithms: it is about understanding.
