Social language takes up to three years to master and is used in the hallways, classrooms, school busses and playgrounds. The social language is embedded with much more than just words. People can communicate with gestures, objects, and pictures. According to the text, this language is called Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills, or BICS (Haynes, 2007, p. 14).

Ways of Communication The ability to communicate appropriately with a wide variety of people whilst maintaining good eye contact, demonstrate a varied vocabulary and tailor your language to your audience, listen effectively, present your ideas appropriately, write clearly and concisely and work well in a group all require good communication skills. Verbal: This communication needs speaking, hearing, and listening thereby involving direct interaction or through devices like telephone or mobile. Furthermore, in the society or in any social circle where young learners operate, the ability to speak and to listen is crucial in the development of their total personality and eventually social horizon. Children need to speak what they need, feel, and think to be addressed, helped, and understood. Good speaking and listening skills have benefits in one’s personal life which includes wider social circles, improved self-esteem and confidence, favorable academic work and more. In addition to these, Palmer (2014) mentioned in the introduction of his book, Teaching the Core Skills of Listening and Speaking, that making students listen a lot does not automatically make them good listeners, and occasionally making them speak in front of the class does not automatically make them good speakers.

I was usually always the quiet one, but we were only kids and no one seemed to pay much attention to this issue. As I got older I had a few friends, but I was never considered popular nor did I stick out in a crowd.
Grammar is an important essence to communication because it helps structure is sentence and it can help in how well one can communicate. If the students have good writing skills which include syntax, they can be effective communicators because they will be able to catch on the social rules which helps they communicate well.
