If the service user is a referral from Social Services then we usually receive a detailed assessment of the individual’s needs from the assessment a Social Worker has carried out. However, I do not rely on this when carrying out my own assessments as it has proven in the past that Social Services’ information is not always up to date. NHS referrals come with very little information. We receive the initials of the patient, their address, NHS number, Broad care number, next of kin details and the package visit times. We never receive detailed information of their medical history and it is often uncomfortable having to ask for this information from the patient or their next of kin as they feel we should already have this on our records.

I am an Occupational Therapy Assistant Student from Community College of Baltimore County. I am a second year student preparing for my level II fieldwork. Upon completion, I will be eligible to enter the workforce. Based on the previous experiences I have had at Mental Health fieldwork, it is evidenced that Occupational Therapy Practitioners are needed in Mental Health settings. Occupational therapy practitioners encourage individual at mental health setting to live a healthy lifestyle such as preparing healthy meals, exercises, drinking water, and taking good care of themselves.

Everyone in the work place should avoid actions that could potentially cause harm to others. They should follow work place policies and procedures and report any accidents/incidents. Their responsibilities would be the same as mine. Others in the work setting Health and safety applies to everyone even if they are not an employee. Everyone has a duty of care to protect them self and others.
The responsibilities of an employer and employee under health and safety legislation, was founded in 1974. Act 1974 is a law made to secure the health, safety, wellbeing of people at work and to prevent unnecessary risks. An employer’s responsibilities under health and safety legislation, requires the employer to be responsible for the health and safety of any person in their premises, which includes employees, customers, suppliers and the public. Employers should hire a certified person in charge of health and safety, however in small businesses that person is usually the owner or a trusted member of staff.
Population health is a field which includes health outcomes, patterns of health determinants and policies and interventions that link these two (Kindig & Stoddart, 2003). More recently, the National Academy of Medicine defined population health as an approach that treats the population as a whole (including the environmental and community contexts) as the patient (NACNEP, 2016). Allied health professionals relate to population health through the understanding of the increased demand to serve the population rather than only the individual. The three most critical areas to better serve the health of the population as allied health professionals include 1) viewing the population’s health as a whole, versus as individuals, 2) to emphasize the need to practice quality improvement and patient safety in all instances when a medical decision is made, and 3) take into consideration all sub-populations when judging the health of an entire population. To shift from individual patient care, based on active symptoms, is the current practice of most healthcare professionals.

Science shows that getting mental health support at an early age can help a child before the problems interfere with their life and other developmental necessities. Children with severe mental disabilities often get the help they need because they cannot live without it. The government is more likely to give them the help they need to live on in their life. Children with minor mental health issues like ADD and Social Anxiety can generally live their lives with little support.
Social model often ensures physical and mental health and broader sphere of participating in active life. The model permits most understated discrimination of people that succeed to lead productive lives irrespective of physical damage. The disadvantage of social model is the approach that runs the threat of excessive breadth and to incorporate all life. Therefore, they do not differentiate among the state to become healthy the concerns of being healthy neither do they differentiate among “health” and “health determinants”.
