The purpose of scheduling in an organization is to reduce the production time and cost of production. By having a good and effective scheduling in an organization, it can help to bring some benefits. First, it can help to smooth the demand signal. In real life, customer demand signal can be divided into two categories such as peaks and troughs of demand. As production scheduling can separate the demand of customer from what is manufactured and where demand is spiky, this can provide a large opportunity to produce a steady drumbeat of manufacturing which can then affect or influence the supply chain of company. The first disadvantage of scheduling operation is complexity. As the person who in charge in scheduling operations, scheduling can lead a lot of works to them since they have to keep track of which crew will be working, what materials needed to process, and which types of product will be produced. Due to this matter, the workload of the scheduler will become heavier. Besides, by having scheduling operations, the company will have to increase the cost of implementation. This is because when a company using scheduling operation system, it has to pay for buying the resources that related to scheduling and pay for training someone to manage the scheduling system. In addition, scheduling operations can be skewed since the company is difficult to schedule a process in manufacturing environment. This might cause many things go wrong and then lead to change in the schedule that already existed. Furthermore, lack of flexibility also one the disadvantage that can be brought by scheduling operations. Sometimes, that is some unexpected factors occur in manufacturing process. Therefore, the company must be able to change and adapt the issues very well. A misdirected planning can cause the company to loss the interest of business. Every planner has their own likes, dislikes or preference that might influence the the planning operation. As the person who in charge in planning operation, he or she may be will concern about the individual interest rather than the interest of company. This action will influence the planner in setting the objectives in order to fulfil his own requirement rather than the whole company. Besides, by having a planning operation, it cost a high cost. Before planning operations, the company or the planner has to collect the information. After that, he or she has to analyse these information and evaluate it into data form. Throughout this period, it includes a lot of expenses such as time, money, and effort. Therefore, all of these expenses carry out a high cost to the company. In addition, via this planning process, it is not only caused a high cost, but also consume many time. The planner has to sacrifice most of his time to collect, to analyse, and to evaluate the information.
