Methods of training
One of the provisions to support the learning needs of the older BCM workers is to review and redesign the methods of training. In order to achieve a successful training and learning outcome, Wooden (2001) advocated that the key moderating factor for successful learning by older BCM workers is the design of how training is conducted. Attempts to implementing inappropriate training methods may likely placed older workers at a disadvantage. An example for older BCM workers is the adverse reaction toward taking a written multiple-choice examination as an assessment. Public policies initiatives
OECD (2003) has advocated for countries to formulate national policies to train older workers. Last but not the least provision to maintain the provision in maintaining the requirement of the older BCM worker is the support from public policies. The government could provide policies that reduce or remove barriers to training of older workers. Some directly relevant Singapore examples include:
(a) Raising of retirement age (from 62 to 65) permits the training of investment by organization should an employee chose not to retire earlier;
(b) Disseminating of information on competencies and good practices for training of older BCM workers (See Appendix 1: Competency-based Business Continuity Management Courses specialising in the BCM area as provided by the Singapore Workforce Development Authority or WDA);
(c) Setting good examples by the government themselves through their practices of handling older workers when recruiting, training and promotion of training to older workers. In the context of Singapore, this initiatives is supported by the Ministry of Manpower Singapore;
