The actions of Aeneas and Odysseus throughout their journeys exhibit the vastly different heroic values that each of them hold and how it represents their respective empire. Aeneas displays immense leadership characteristics, as his primary concern is always in the best interest of his people. Being the duty-bound leader that he is, he is one that will choose to forgo his personal desires and act upon his civil duties to his people. Aeneas’ leave-taking of Dido is an excellent representation of Aeneas living by his commitments, rather than his emotions. Although Aeneas is heartbroken about having to leave Dido and the peaceful life he could have had behind, he was given the task of creating an empire in Rome and that is exactly what he must

Sam Fisher Ms. Palazzolo ENG 200 1 March 2023 Odyssey vs O'Brother Final Draft Despite what most people think, only 10% of the S&P 500’s CEOs graduated from an Ivy League level college. This shows that you do not have to be brilliant in order to be a competent leader. However, this is not the case when it comes to Odysseus from The Odyssey and Everett from O’Brother: Where Art Thou. Although Odysseus and Everett are both clever leaders, Odysseus loses all of his men because he never cares for them, whereas Everett does and therefore his friends survive.

Throughout the Aeneid, Aeneas had the ability to remain focused on his main purpose, to found Rome. He did not let distractions interfere with his mission. In the final moments of Book 12 Aeneas is faced with a truly tough decision.
Finally, I’m going to talk about how honor plays probably the single biggest roles within Aeneas’ leadership style. Everything he does is based on how honorable or dishonorable it would be. Which makes since if you take into consideration the time period that we are talking about. The reason why many of these kings were in power during this time is because the people believed that they were more godlike, more honorable, then they were. Therefore, it makes sense that this would be held with such high regard.

In essence, the purpose for Homer’s epic is primarily to entertain the audience, while the other is to serve as a piece of political propaganda and affirm the greatness of Rome. Furthermore, the different depictions of the underworld, along with the imagery adorned on the shields also communicate another key difference, which is the author’s perspective on the purpose of life.
