Pageants separates itself from other cultures due to its history, hair and makeup styles, social habits, ethics, and stereotypes.
The history of pageantry has changed tremendously over the years. “In other words, it is not simply that the Miss America pageant defines the “typical” woman within the bounds of whiteness, but also that the pageant presents the definition of typicality as a national identity for all women” (Watson & Martin, 2004, p.70). The first African American to capture the title of Miss USA was Carole Ann-Marie Gist in 1984. The Miss USA pageant started in 1952, so it took 32 years for a black woman to claim the title. Now, it is normal for black women to win pageants which is a great thing because it used to not be that

“The Romanov Imperial nuptial crown. It was the first crown and previously owned by the Russian czar. It was used when Armi Kuusela of Finland won. It is believed to be made with approximately 1,535 flawless diamonds and was insured for $500,000. Ironically, a nuptial crown was used to honour a "Miss” (Angelopedia, 2022, p.1). The Miss USA crowns have evolved since the first crown, but they have always been beautiful and expensive with real diamonds. “Force for a Good Crown. Miss Universe organization, under the new leadership of JKN Global Group, held the event to unveil the new crown today, i.e., 19th December 2022 at True Icon Hall (Icon Siam) in Bangkok, Thailand. The crown ‘Force for Good’ is also made by Mouawad. This will be the 12th crown of the Miss Universe pageant and the second crown from the world-renowned jeweler. The design reflects the belief of the Miss Universe organization that the future of the world will be shaped by women who are ready to push all the limits of what is possible and by talented women from around the world who encourages positive changes” (Angelopedia, 2022, p.1). The 2023 “Force for a Good” crown is not only huge but spectacular. It is different from the other crowns in the past. Our Miss USA gets to wear it because she won the Miss Universe competition. The Miss USA crowns have evolved tremendously since the first titleholder. They are not only …show more content…
This image is a political cartoon. The first thing I notice about it is there are three white women and one African American woman being crowned Miss America. The previous ones were handing down their crowns. The setting is a black background with some stars and drawings of some movement around their hands. The image was created to show how it took a while for there to be diverse winners, at first it was all white women. This sentence will discuss the origins of the image, how it was created, and why it was created. The intended audience is for people that do pageantry and people that are interested in competing in them. The ethos found in the image is empowerment. It shows that out of all these years the stigma has finally been broken and we are more racially accepting. The image is sympathetic because it shows that there is finally an African American winner after so many years. The cartoon shows logos because of how it shows that we have broken the stigma to just white women winning pageants. The logical fallacy in this image is the post hoc ergo propter hoc which means just because something happened first, does not mean it caused what happened next. This is a prime example of this image because the first three women that are crowned Miss America are white and the last one crowned is an African American, so this shows
Through her appeal to Logos she educates her people and others of what the black libertarian army is, and why it is so important to keep fighting for equality because if they don't, her people will continue to have the mistreatment that they have always struggled

Of the clusters and themes, there are four that emerged in both ways of analysis: Miss Rodeo America and Conventional Beauty, Agriculture/Western and Western, Sponsor and Sponsors, Rodeo/Horsemanship and Rodeo/Horsemanship. The repetitiveness of themes and clusters highlight the values and ideas that are most important to this organization. One theme was not repeated, Heterosexuality, and there are two clusters that were also not repeated with a theme, MRAI and Education. The MRAI cluster reveals the image that this organization wants to display to the public.
Julia Alvarez and his three teenage sisters discover the “key” to assimilating into their new country. Their stereotypical understanding of what it means to be an American is defined by one’s appearance. Comparing themselves to the women featured in the Miss America contest, makes the Alvarez girls long for the “American look”. It narrows down to a caucasian, hourglass shaped figure with long seamless straight hair. “Although we wanted to look like we belonged here, the four sisters, our looks didn 't seem to fit in.”

In the article “Toddlers in Tiaras” by Skip Hollandsworth the author uses many ways to get the reader to know the rhetorical situation and also how his argument is structured. The analyzation of exigency in the article is what happens in the world of pageants and how it negatively affects young girls. Telling girls that you have to look and be a certain way instead of yourself. The purpose of this article is to inform you that young girls are being exploited as women. The girls are being overexposed and hypersexualized because of the pageantry.

It was stated that most of the parents who enter these competitions have modest incomes. With that in mind, “Some of these families spend $75,000 a year on pageants; they could do a lot more in terms of expanding their daughters’ sense of possibilities with that money.” These are the words of journalist and author of Cinderella Ate My Daughter, Peggy Orenstein (¶ 35), who believes that pageants take away opportunities from the
This was where logos (logical appeal) was displayed. The way Claudette Colvin and Rosa Parks connected shows the use of pathos (emotional appeal). The choices made in this video were

The 1950’s was a very controversial time specially for woman, during that era they symbolized the traditional gender roles; housewife’s, submissive and conservative. Surprisingly, Marilyn Monroe, Barbie and beauty pageants became very popular even though they challenged the image of an ideal woman at the time by portraying more beauty and sexuality. These icons symbolized various messages while still upholding some of the traits that dominated that era. The beauty pageants portrayed various messages regarding woman’s beauty and sexuality a very dominant one was the qualifications to be considered a candidate for Miss America.

Considering that there are about 3 ½ million more women in the United States than men, this situation is outrageous.” (Page 1) Chisholm also uses logos in her speech by stating the faults in the fight for equality. Chisholm also compares the fight for the equality of women to one of African Americans in the United States by suggesting that both groups are having an unkempt fight in the same areas. Chisholm states, “It is true that part of the problem has been that women have not been aggressive in demanding their rights. This was also true of the black population for many years.
“It was a national white doll contest. Love hate affair with white dolls, with mythicized white femininity.” (pg 533) The pageant displays the beauty that the dolls are based on. Most of the contestants that take part in Miss America pageants and winners are white female with the exception of a few black females, but they are not emphasized as much.
