Capital Punishment Must Be Abolished
Capital punishment has been used by most civilizations and societies as a punishment for criminals. Nowadays, there are 140 known countries that have abolished the death penalty as a form of punishment(Amnesty 4) but there are 57 countries that are still carrying out capital punishment such as The USA, Iran, Iraq (Info1). However, the effectiveness of the capital punishment, in order to prevent crime is being seriously questioned by a continuously increasing number of law enforcements but the general opinion is that death penalty is not the appropriate way to punish criminals, because it does not deter people from committing a crime, it may result in the death of an innocent person, and it is not ethical. …show more content…

It goes against human rights because the right to life is the most important right which human beings have. Of course, a criminal should be punished whatever the crime, but not by capital punishment because everybody has a right to live even if they are brutal criminals. It does not give us the reason to take someone’s life. Moreover, it is contradictory to the purpose of punishment. The aim of punishing criminals is to teach, make them understand they made a mistake and took lessons from this mistake and did not repeat this mistake the rest of their life. However, Capital Punishment takes this chance from criminals hand and does not give opportunity for them to understand their mistake because killing someone by murder after they have murdered does not teach them a lesson. Criminals can not be taught by the same mistake. Also, capital punishment does not work as a punishment it works as a vengeance method in these law enforcements. And in the 21st century taking someone’s life for justice is shameful for all humanity. The government’s job is not to terminate life but to save it. As Gandhi says, “An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.” To sum up, capital punishment must not be a punishment option for criminals because taking criminals life is immoral, and it does not match with the purpose of punishment.
In conclusion, no one benefits from capital punishment, and it is not good for both governments and criminals. Also, it is obvious that it has more disadvantages than its advantages. Because of all these factors, it seems clear, that capital punishment does not deter people from committing crimes, some innocent people may be killed and it is ethically wrong, so considering all the evidences it would be logical to suggest that capital punishment must be
