Children today are intellectually advanced but emotionally behind. From an older viewpoint, children are exposed to many things at younger ages. Children learn age inappropriate things through internet exposure, everything from "cyberspace to sexual techniques" according to Tim Elmore, all before they graduate middle school. Information is presented so much faster through the internet, which they have access to everywhere, from computers to phones. Children cannot process that overflow of information correctly. However, if the information children consume is age appropriate and moderated correctly, it can be a benefit to their cognitive development. Sociology professor Tony Campolo said, "I am convinced we don 't live in a generation of bad kids. We live in a generation of kids who know too much too soon." And even though they have access to so much information, according to Elmore, children seem "stunted in their emotional maturity." Helping children and youth to consume age appropriate information will make them more mature adults, emotionally and intellectually. Children today are exposed to inappropriate information on the internet. This information is too mature for their age, and youths are often exposed to sexual content before leaving middle school. This can have negative effects on their emotional maturity. Children have access to internet all the time with phones, computers and tablets. That constant stream of information can overflow what children can process, and lead to emotional, irrational responses when they try to act on that information.
