Abstract
The reason for this research paper is to spread the knowledge of the growing discrimination on age. Ageism is a discrimination and or a prejudice on the basis on someone’s age. Ageism occurs in the work place. There is personal ageism, unintentional ageism and intentional ageism, Employers are by passing qualified applicants for open positions to employ younger candidates, who are far less qualified for the position. With employers having this process done it leaves the unemployed longer unemployed. This also adds another oppressed group in our society.

I can definitely see how treating someone of a certain age can be belittling. It is normal for us has a society to see someone older then us in need of help and we got out our way to help them, but to them it seems that they are incapable of doing anything for themselves. Same thing for some one that is of the younger age, we automatically assume that they can handle the “heavy load” that they are carrying but they are struggling. The outcome of ageism influence’s how we Americans can live the last third of our lives and can even affect our life span. It is said that ageism is believed to shorten or lives. One study reported that older adults who held negative views about old age faced life expectancies that were, on average, 7 and a half shorter than those peers (Levy et al, 2002). This is a concerning statistic when considering the nature of ageism. In another study, 70 percent of older adults reported that they had been insulted or mistreated based on their age. In a survey of eighty-four people, ages 60 and older, nearly 80 percent of participants reported experiencing ageism (Dittmann, 2003)
There is a debate going stating ageism will either ease or grow worse in the coming decades of booming senior

I do believe that ageism is being over looked. Injustice of older people or failure to accept that crimes against older people can have a disproportionate impact on their independence, development, and security. Well intentioned ageism’ means that alternative approaches are adopted that concentrate on welfare or the lack of appropriate support through the criminal justice process. An injustice of the victims of ageism give them low self-esteem. Ageism barriers between the elders and the younger generation and the lawyers lead to ineffective communication in the justice system, Victims of ageism also feel the lack of confidence that the legal system can deliver justice for older people. Ageism is also an easy target for sexual assault. They fear shame especially in relation to sexual
Chapter 13 was all about the elderly and their place in society. Gerontology is the study of elderly people and the hardships people are faced with once they start aging. More specifically Social gerontology is a subclass of Gerontology that specializes in in what changes a person makes in society once they start aging into the later years. Industrialization is believed to be one of the causes of elderly people losing superiority and power in society. What once was wisdom and knowledge that defined an elderly person is now something like old fashioned.
The United States government is doing a surprisingly little amount for the million of elderly who are being abused everyday. An affective abuse policy increasing elderly protection services is immensely needed. The public should also be informed about elderly abuse, and the individuals who commit the crime of abusing the elderly should have stricter punishments. People in society can help towards pushing for a more goal driven elder justice policy. In the article, “The Elderly Must Be Protected From Abuse,” author Robert B. Blancato explains seven goals which should be addressed towards elderly justice.
By the end of Confronting Elderly Abuse in America, I was crying and upset. I felt so bad for the victims, and I couldn’t believe that so many people could hurt the elderly. I believe the state stated in the documentary was that nearly 90% are abused by someone they know. It’s devastating to know that those being abused put so much trust in the ones they love without knowing their loved ones are abusing their power. Although, the majority of elderly abuse cases are caused by a loved one or caregiver there are those cases that person abused was picked at random like husband’s grandma.
Suzanne Moore writes in her article “What We Really Fear Is Old Age, Not Dying,” that the relevant way to die involves getting really old, which is terrifying. She also mentions whether it is a fright of dying of old age or actually a tremor of old people. People always express their disgust at the way old people are treated but they don’t want to see those old people unless they are fit, gleeful and hiding their diseases. The fact is that as we get older , we will tend to get sick and most of us are puzzled on the appropriate action to settle that myriad problems. The reality of life is taking care of those old folks seems low-status and feminized activity.
A. Ageism- prejudice towards people based on their age (Moody, 13). With the life expectancy nearly doubling over the past 100 years, more and more Americans are surpassing the 65-year age landmark. In a survey of people age 60 and above, 80% reported experience with ageism (Dittmann, 2003). Ageism has harm on the mentality of the aging American.
The result shows that 46 or 92% of the elderlies wished that they had more respect to themselves. Forty or 80% of them said that they sometimes pity themselves while 34 or 68% of them perceived that they have little or sometimes nothing to help their family and friends. In addition, 33 or 66% of elderlies said that they are not happy with their accomplishments in life while 32 or 64% of them perceived that they do not have capabilities and good qualities that they can be proud of and shared that they find it difficult to accept the changes happening in themselves at the present moment. Moreover, 28 or 56% of the elderlies shared that they often think and wish that they are in other people’s condition while half of them (50%) think and feel that they are useless. Further, despite of the adversities experienced in later life, 32 or 64% of elderlies didn’t think that they

Unfortunately, Olay’s anti-aging advisement prospers in pushing the social institutionalization of ageism and insecurity-driven
We think people should not be doing certain tasks because of their age. We could change this problem by allowing individuals to do what they want, and if they are not capable we should guide them into another activity. this issue should be discussed, because we judge people by their age and evaluate what they are capable of doing. In the book Night by Elie Wiesel, both Elie and his dad are discriminated.
Considering my age, it wasn’t a topic that crossed my mind frequently. By the end of Cowley’s essay I didn’t have empathy for older people, but rather compassion and a sense of understanding. Cowley’s ability to familiarize me with an 80 year old’s perspective as a college student was enough to convince me that Cowley’s essay was effective in communicating his point. Cowley develops argumentation through multiple lenses including the personal physical and psychological conflicts as well as societal behavior towards elderly people and how this treatment, good or bad, is perceived by old
With the undeniable truth, everyone must age and grow older. Although this is a natural process of life, not everyone is accepting of this. At this age, being an older adult you face difficulties such as aging, sexuality, relationship dynamics and having to face reality that you are not in your prime as you once were. Heart attacks, strokes, and other ailments are examples of this. However, just as there younger counterparts they still able to do somethings they were able to do in their earlier stages.
The process of aging in not an unfamiliar topic to society and is an inevitable phase of life. Since 2011, the number of older individuals are increasing annually particularly those from the baby boomer generation. The life expectancy has been increasing with people living longer thanks to modern medicine. These occurrences are proof that civilization is growing exponentially, however the process of aging also means that the older individuals are facing dilemmas such as decreased physical functions, financial instability from retirement, and abuse. Even older adults who are independent may face some limitations.
Long life has always been considered a blessing. Today, the people of the United States are enjoying the benefit of living much longer than ever before in history. However, there is a flipside to this coin of longevity. The population of the United States is aging at an unprecedented rate. “In 2010, 40 million people age 65 and over accounted for 13 percent of the total population in the United States.”
Introduction I. We as a human being, we age and it is said that there will be more elderly people in the future. A. According to the graph of 2012 Population Estimates and National Projections from the Current Population Report by Jennifer M. Ortman, the population aged 65 and above is projected to be 83.7 million in 2050, almost double its estimated population of
Younger employees can assist older employees by sharing new ideas whereas older employees can share positive qualities including experience, judgment, strong work ethic and commitment to quality. By this way it is possible to reduce age discrimination in the workplace. But the main role will be played by organization by maintaining the good relationship between
