Ah Boys To Men 2 is a comedic movie that follows the lives of a group of National Service recruits through their first few months in National Service. The movie is directed by Singaporean director Jack Neo, who is known for creating parodies of issues and events in Singapore. The main cast includes Joshua Tan as Ken Chow, Maxi Lim as Aloysius Jin, Wang Wei Liang as Bang Lee Onn “Lobang”, Noah Yap as Man In Ping “I.P. Man”, and Tosh Zhang as Sergeant Alex Ong. Noah Yap and Tosh Zhang are both local Youtube personalities. Director Jack Neo initially wanted to include familiar actors Shawn Lee and Joshua Ang to the cast, but decided against it, as he wanted to provide viewers with a totally new cast. Tosh Zhang was also the writer and performer of the movies’ theme songs, “Recruits” and “Brothers” for the first and second movies respectively. Ah Boys To Men 2, a sequel to Ah Boys To Men, follows a group of recruits, introduced in the first movie, as they continue serving the mandatory 2 years of National Service. The recruits are put through tougher and more challenging situations. At the same time, there is less focus on Joshua Tan’s character, Ken Chow, who was the center of the first movie, and more focus on the whole section he belongs to. Ah Boys to Men 2 is relatable because it touches on a part of every Singaporean man’s life. Women can relate to this movie as well because they have family members and friends who are going or have gone through National Service. The languages used in the movie also make it very relatable. The script consists mainly of Singlish, a type of English dialect spoken colloquially in Singapore, with hints of the other main languages in Singapore.
