The first type of pollution is air pollution. According to United States Environmental Protection Agency (as cited in Vallero, 2008, p. 3), air pollution is the presence of contaminants or pollutant substances in the air that interfere with human health or welfare, or produce other harmful environmental effects. Air pollution always consists of a whole range of pollutants, gaseous and particular alike. Common pollutants which are major public health concern include particulate mass and some gases like ozone, nitrogen oxides, sulphur oxide, and carbon monoxide. The sources of these pollutants include household combustion devices, motor vehicles, industrial facilities, forest fires and pesticides.

Air pollution can also cause many problems such as chest pain, congestion, throat inflammation, cardiovascular disease, respiratory diseases. Cooking, our vehicles, excessive burning of materials, and the smoke/smog from our chimneys all pollute our air and our daily lives. A chemical called Sulphur dioxide is released in the air by the smoke from chimneys, factories and our vehicles. Another pollution that has a big toll on our Earth is water pollution. As industries dump industrial waste into our rivers, creeks, lakes, oceans and other bodies of water it causes an imbalance in the water leading to the severe death and contamination of aquatic species.
This resulted in production of ozone-derived pollutants such as formaldehyde and secondary organic aerosols. [6] The last important source of indoor contaminants is caused by personal habits. Smoking is the major exposure pathway in indoor health risks of environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) [6]. ETS contains over 4000 chemicals with more than 60 known carcinogens. The biggest carcinogens present in ETS are the PAHs[xx].

Primary air pollutants - primary air pollutants can be caused by primary and secondary sources. Pollutants are a quick result of a process known as primary air pollutants. For example, when sulphur-dioxide is produced by factories. Secondary air pollutants - secondary pollutants are caused by the reactions of the primary air pollutants. Several primary air pollutants are known as secondary air pollutants.
The seven types of air pollution considered the greatest threat to human health in the United States, and the first regulated by the 1970 United States Clean Air Act, include sulfur dioxide, particulates, carbon monoxide, volatile organic compounds, nitrogen oxides, ozone, and lead. Air pollution is the main cost of pollution in the world with many factors affecting it. There have been acts to destroy air pollution but is still stays as the number 1 problem in the case of pollution. Many people oppose the existence of air pollution saying it’s probably caused by other source including those that aren’t man made. Also, some opposers say that air pollution is made up by cooperate companies to increase the cause of more natural resources, but this is just a blatant conspiracy.
Mining Sources: Mining source includes coal refuse and slag. Mining and forestry activities that clear the land surface. Additionally, such as iron and copper leads from mining practices leach into the soil, polluting it and leaving it exposed to water bodies as well. 3. Industrial Sources: This includes paints, chemical and aluminum and so on that are produces in the process of manufacturing goods.
To illustrate, air pollution is a jumble of solid elements and gases in the air, it caused by car emissions, chemicals from factories, dust, pollen, and mold bacteria. However, ozone and gas is a major part of air contamination in cities. All of these materials affect the nature in several way and lead to problems for the plants and trees. During the burning of fossil fuels, harmful gases like nitrogen oxides and sulfur oxides are liberated into the atmosphere. When it rains, the water droplets integrate with these air pollutants, so it becomes acidic and then drops on the ground in the shape of acid rain ("Environmental pollution," n.d.).
