In era globalization, many of people are often faced with the problem of air pollution. Air pollution can be said of the pollution the biggest impact on the environment. Due to the air pollution that causes global warming which lead to the incurrence to natural disasters that threaten our planet. Air pollution is the presence of solid, liquid or gaseous particles in the atmosphere, which are not generally present, or are present in higher concentration and have no beneficial effect. it can be classified into two parts, primary and secondary pollution.
This pollution comes from households, vehicles, industries, and farms which releases chemicals. In short pollution means the energy or matter which is released in to the environment which brings a change in ecosystem. The world with its fastest growth of its population simultaneously one of human necessities likes a transportation vehicles also enormously increasing. Most studies shows in the world, there were in 1999 in the world wide the number of vehicles registered were 700 million. From this huge number of vehicles US has got its share which is 200 million vehicles is for passengers’ cars and light trucks.
Due to the high calorific power of the petroleum derivatives and the easy way to be stored and consumed, this versatile fuel became the main energy source to propel locomotives, ships, vehicles, airplanes and to generate electricity. And since then, the increase of oil consumption is proportional to the economy growth. In 1952, a temperature inversion associated with large pollutant concentration, a combination of home fireplaces and pollutants from the factories, achieved a high level of toxicity, killing 4000 people in 5 days and altogether 12000 persons during an event known as great smog of London. The term pollution became usual and the world became aware of pollution and its effects. The burning of fossil fuels was acknowledged to be dangerous for the human beings as well as for the ecosystem.
Impact of Air Pollution on Antibiotics With the increase in the capacity of bacteria from air pollution, antibiotics given in the treatment of respiratory infections prove ineffective. This has been revealed in a recent research. According to Julie Morris, the Associate Professor of Leicester University in the UK, research has helped us to understand how air pollution affects human life. Morris said, this
By recent research these filters efficiency increased and it can even remove particulates which remove size which is not visible to naked eye. The air intakes of internal combustion engines and air compressors tend to use either paper, foam, or cotton filters. As we know there are so many types of air filters and according to the pollution level the filters are choosen.as we know for large scale pollution such as industries and factories the air filters are big and should me more effective. For home appliances small scale filters are enough to remove the dust or smoke which cause inside or near the house.
Air pollution causes respiratory problems in people and animals. Pollutants in the air can cause brain damage when exposed in great amounts (Air Pollution). In certain rural countries people wear mask to filter the air because factories emit so much pollution into the air. Many countries don't have proper water filtration systems and the pollution dumped into water is ingested by people and they could get sick and die. When pollution is dumped into water, fish are likely to ingest the pollutant and people eat the fish in countries with little food regulation, this can cause harmful effects to the humans.
In an attempt to increased the quality of our crops or protect them against pest and diseases, production of commercial products and various medicines, we tend to cause unintentional harm to earth and humans. Pollution has reduced the quality of water and depletion of the ozone layer leaving measurable holes. Cancer and some adverse health problems have been linked to some chemicals we use in our day to day activities. These has lead to many government enforcing regulations on the generation and dumping of industrial waste and emissions. In order to combat the issue of pollution, the idea of green chemistry was formulated.
This is due to the reason that not to use plastic bag can help to reduce the environment problem and thus lend a helping hand to the save earth action. It is understandable that the labor from the plastic bag industry required the job to survive and the banned plastic bags policy can lead the demand of plastic bags to be decreased. It is true that we cannot bring the whole responsibility to the factory that produce plastic bags because the pollution are made by the bad behavior of human that littering around. However, we cannot deny that the excessive usage of plastic bags has brought a major problem to the earth. Plastic bags not only bring impact to human health, it also harms the natural cycle.
The government is taking a core step in minimising air pollution and water pollution. With rapid increase in the economic growth of China it has created another big challenges in reducing pollution. In late 1990s, the energy consumption has increased by 70% and from 2000-2005 consumption of coal increased by 75%. China is the world largest emission of SO2. The pollution in water also created a serious threat.
Environmentalists found that harmful exhaust fumes from vehicles, poisonous smoke produced by coal- based power plants and dust from construction sites and road works have deteriorated the quality of air. Air pollution is a major environmental issue because of irreversible repercussions and numerous costs and values involved. The “poisonous air” in the city caused many casualties, hence raising the value of statistical life (VSL) in Delhi. People are willing to pay a greater price to save one individual’s life and reduce the mortality rate. The air borne particles in the smog lead to innumerable patients suffering from chronic illnesses namely strokes, cancer and respiratory diseases.
