1.0 INTRODUCTION 1.0 Introduction
1.1 Overview
1.1.1 Airline industry
The airline industry is one of the fastest-changing industry sectors in the world today. That said, compared to other industries the airline industry has a relatively short history to look back at. While it is rather an impossible task to point to the exact date which could signal the starting line for the airline business, it could be said that the history of aviation in general started with the Wright brothers’ success in conducting powered air flights in 1903 (Sheehan & Oclott, 2003). A German general and aircraft manufacturer Count Zeppelin was the first business man to found an airline six years after the first manned flight by the Wright brothers. On the 16th

Among the early form of in-flight entertainment is the screening of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Lost World in the Imperial Airways flight from London to Paris on 7th April 1925. Since then, it has seen rapid development as airlines are eager to use their respective in-flight entertainment systems as a strategic product to compete in the industry.
This development then opened the possibility of in-flight connectivity, which enables passengers to connect and communicate via satellite phone, intranet and the most recent development, in-flight internet. In-flight internet was first developed by Boeing with its Connexion by Boeing (CBB), an in-flight online connectivity service. It was a service that allowed traveller to access connection while on board a plane.
Following the trend, airlines have been pushing to offer in-flight connectivity in their flights, with the latest trend being the offering of Internet services on board. This focus on in-flight connectivity and on-board internet facility even led to some within the aviation industry to refer the entire in-flight entertainment category as IFEC (In-Flight Entertainment and

A pilot run will be done with beta testers comprising the students of Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology. After the pilot run, the survey will be done on various places: airport, immigration department. These places are chosen for:
i. High numbers of potential respondents. ii. High probability of the respondent having flown at least once in the past year.
5.2 Questionnaire
For this research, a set of questionnaire will be constructed, with emphasis on respondent’s view and knowledge of in-flight internet connection (wireless local area network), in-flight entertainment and how respondents view both in-flight connectivity and in-flight entertainment as a value added product in an aircraft.
The questionnaire will be divided into three major parts that touch on:
i. Demographics information of the respondent ii. Main questionnaire parts (with 10-15 questions) iii. Open end question (subjective opinions)
For main questionnaire section, Lickert scale will be used for the choice of answers, with range of 1 until 5.

Case Analysis #1 – “Southwest Airlines: Is It Still the King of Cheap Flights” 1. Answer the questions at the end of the case. 1. Airline customers can be segmented in a variety of ways. Two of these include by purpose of travel and their destinations.
This part is very important because every that airline, who is connected to our system would be shown on our website and we must have access to those airlines’ database, because database is very important in our case, we must have all the information about that airline. Because when a client will ask about information of a specific flight and if we have access to that database, only in this case we would be able to inform the client. Ticket Reservation This module will allow the client to search of a specific flight, choose flight, details, confirmations, cancellations etc.
For worldwide airline industry, opportunities can emerge from new client expectations, items, business sector structures or regulatory
9. Environments Like any other Industry, the airline industry is also affected by changes in its external environment. King III (2009) highlights that leaders are not supposed to compromise the natural environment and the livelihood of future generations. Environmental Factors can also have a significant role to play in an airline industry; like in the case of Prof. McPherson we observe the bad weather reducing his time by 1 hour and thirty minutes. In light of the environmental factors that affect the airline industry this Study will focus on the traditional Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Environmental, and Legal Analysis, often referred to as the PESTEL Analysis.
With a rise in fuel prices and environmental factors (such as terrorist threats) reducing air travel, airlines continue to struggle. In union environments, where staff (like pilots and flight attendance) is heavily unionized, the industry has not been able to cut their labor costs. New low-cost industry entrants are adding to the pressure the traditional
1.0 Introduction to Strategic Management Strategic management practices the formation; achievement and reaching the major objectives executed by the management of the company, by considering the capital and a task of the internal and external environments in which the company wishes to compete. 1.1 Introduction to Singapore Airlines Singapore Airlines (SIA) is established in year 1972 with remarkable performance among its competitors in the industry throughout its 35-year-long history till date (Heracleous & Wirtz, 2009). According to Singapore Airlines (2014), SIA is one of the youngest aircraft fleets worldwide to destinations crossing a network of more six continents, with its iconic Singapore Girl providing excellent standard of service to customers. Throughout the years of operations, SIA has an impressive ever-growing list of industry 's leading innovations such as offering free headsets along with a choice of meals and drinks in Economy Class in the 1970s, followed by introducing satellite based in-flight telephones in year 1991, involving an ample panel of renowned chefs, the International Culinary Panel, to provide lush in-flight meals in year 1998, developing audio and video on demand (AVOD) capabilities on KrisWorld in year 2001, and lastly flying the airbus of A380 from Singapore to Sydney on 25 October 2007 (Singapore Airlines, 2014).
Aircraft Performance Through the chaos and mayhem of World War 2, the aviation industry made significant advancements in its technology. After the war ended, this technology stretched and expanded to the farthest reaches of the world. Frank Whittle of England and Hans von Ohain of Germany both created the world of aviation that we live in today. Both men did it without the knowledge of each other throughout the 1930s and 1940s.
From 1914 to the present, air travel has been one of the greatest ideas men has ever thought about. What’s better than traveling around the World in just a few hours? Is there something better than air travel? I’m not sure you can argue with that. However, on the other hand, I can argue with many things about traveling.
