In Ajahn Brahm YouTube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USC5MJVZLy8), he explains the 4 ways of letting go as well as the reason for needing letting go and just enjoy the simple present day things. By hanging onto unnecessary objects, emotions and events not only is it painful and making yourself suffers but also making others suffer with you (YouTube, 4 ways of letting go). An example for the importance of letting things go that Ajahn Brahm gave was to not let a person continue to hurt you. That by not letting go after the initial hurt you are giving them more power to continue to hurt you (YouTube, 4 ways of letting go). If you are rethinking about the incident and pain than you are just continuing to hurt yourself, which then you are just continuing to hurt yourself. Another advice Ajahn Brahm gave was that “your future peace, health and …show more content…
The first one was to eliminate unnecessary things from your life and to focus on one thing at a time (YouTube, 4 ways of letting go). An example Ajahn gave was carrying too many things in the backpack of your mind, that by doing this it exhausts you and weighs you down. Look through the backpack and see what can be thrown away. Focus on one thing at a time and be present in the moment, if unable to do so it could lead to a mental break down (YouTube, 4 ways of letting go).
The second way of letting go described by Ajahn was contentment. An example Ajahn gave was the differences between prisons and monasteries. Prisons may be more comfortable whereas monasteries may be harder but the difference is that monastery people want to be there (YouTube, 4 ways of letting go). He describes that any place you do not want to be is a prison and the only way to get out of your prison is to change your attitude about being there (YouTube, 4 ways of letting go). This goes with physical and mental situations, “as long as you want to be there, you are free” (YouTube, 4 ways of letting
In the documentary Solitary Nation, Adam (inmate in the Maine State Prison), was sent into an isolation cell after starting a riot. At first, he came out as a strong-minded man but it only took 25 days before his mental health started to diminish. Adam is one of the few inmates who wants to get better and fights for a chance to get his GED so he can have something good for when he is released. He finally gains the privilege to get out of his cell to study, but he starts a riot with the other prisoners (Edge et al). Adam is an example of how being isolated leads to not being able to function properly when given the opportunity to interact with other people.
Finally, Kor expresses the importance of forgiveness. “Anger and hate are seeds that germinate war. Forgiveness is a seed for peace. It is the ultimate act of self-healing. I look at forgiveness as the summit of a very tall mountain” (Kor and Buccieri 133).
If you don’t forgive someone it can haunt you for the rest of your life and may affect how you see different objects and
It’s like when someone is angry we cannot suppress it by returning the same intensity of anger, in order to calm the situation, we do not need to retaliate the things, we do not need to be incompetence in saying words instead we need to give back the opposite
One thought a person must look at to decide what course of action to take is why people choose forgiveness. A person might decide on forgiveness because they want to set themselves free from bitterness. Lindgaard explains, "Not forgiving someone is the equivalent of
The different contexts have their own features and these features have very strong background characteristics of their own environments. Gladwell mentions that “They say that the criminal—far from being someone who acts for fundamental, intrinsic reasons and who lives in his own world—is actually someone acutely sensitive to his environment, who is alert to all kinds of cues, and who is prompted to commit crimes based on his perception of the world around him” (Gladwell 156). The environment has a very powerful shape effect, when a person who begin to construct his own internal and emotion world the external factors are the most important reference materials for him. This is also the time that the environment begins to label the individual.
Once the negative component is cut out, the cycle of hurting and healing just to be hurt again will be broken. Then, and only then, will nature be able to take its course and neutralize the
We are humans and a majority of us have dealt with heartache, pain, broken promises, along with the joyous things like dreams, aspirations, and successful futures. Humans mess up and make mistakes, but we have to remember that forgiveness is a very prestigious and powerful thing. Forgiveness affects people’s lives in positive ways through the hardships, difficulties, and struggles of life. There comes a time when forgiveness should not be available to some individuals. However, this depends on the past situations that have occurred in your life as well as other individuals.
The long-term behavioral goal that I wish to focus on for this assignment is to do physical exercise five-days a week. Regular physical exercise would help me maintain a healthy weight, reduce my risk of heart attack and stroke, improve my mood and well-being, and is an important factor for a long and healthy life. The first technique that I practiced was time management. I have a busy schedule which involves a constant balance of attending classes, doing homework, going to work, doing church callings, and participating in extracurricular activities.
Study Guide for Exam 2 Grandparents: Much younger than before. Text states that three fourths are grandparents prior to the age of 65. Half of the grandmothers are younger than 54. Grandparents are healthier and their lives are busier as they have multiple roles. The last two generations of middle aged adults will not have the same grandparent experience as their predecessors.
When both points are compared, they are very similar in the way that suffering is a key part in overcoming hardships, and said hardships in turn brought changes and new
But the pain and the negative is just as important as the joy and happiness in life. You can not grow without rain and sunlight, you need both the good and bad, the positive and negative, to become the best version you can be, “There is nothing unworthy of acceptance. The light of awareness will doubtless illuminate things we would prefer not to see”. To be able to move on with the difficult times in life you have to accept them as lessons and be able to learn from them so you do not end up in situations you wish to repress again. Though remembering and growing from the pain we have endured is necessary, embracing those memories and feelings does not mean indulging in them, “To embrace hatred is to accept it for what it is: a
In “A Mistake that Should Last a Lifetime,” by Jessanne Collins argues that we should learn to deal with our mistakes, live with regrets, and know we can’t change our permanent situations. The narrator made a decision that made her live with a long regret. She tattooed her left wrist with a phrase that said, “Break to keep fixing.” She made a mistake because she was nervous and told the tattoo artist she was ready when she really wasn’t. Her simple tattoo led to a long time of regret.
“We need to realize that our path to transformation is through our mistakes. We're meant to make mistakes, recognize them, and move on to become unlimited.” (Yehuda Berg). A character metamorphosis is superficially impossible; it can only occur if one has such tenacity and passion, often unpossessed by most people. Touching Spirit Bear by Ben Mikaelsen, however, chronicles the journey of Cole Matthews as a “lost cause” into a rekindled and hopeful teenager after his experience on a remote island as punishment is over.
