In the documentary during the Championship, Akron Shooting Stars vs. the California All Stars in eighth grade Little Dru was about 4’6 and short. People would pick on him because he was shorter than others. However, he learned that you don 't have to be the same as other people do the same as them. When people would pick on him and call him names, it wouldn’t bother him because he knew that they were just trying to make him feel bad and then it would make him depressed or upset at the game, yet Little Dru did not let it bother him. LeBron James and the players learned a lot of lessons during their basketball career. “Such as height doesn’t matter.”- Little Dru.
The team learned about friendship. “After playing together and hanging out together
One day after school Amar'e and his friends went to shoot some hoops but when they arrived they were greeted by older and taller kids.
The Man Who Lived with Grizzlies “I would never, ever kill a bear in defense of my own life - would not go into a bear’s home and kill a bear.” These were the words of Timothy Treadwell, the main character of the documentary film, Grizzly Man. Directed by Werner Herzog and released on August 12, 2005, Grizzly Man stitches together video footage taken by Treadwell over five years that he spent living among the grizzly bears of Kodiak Island in Alaska to tell a mesmerizing story. Using interviews of people close to Treadwell and Herzog’s narration, the film reveals Treadwell to be not a mentally deranged lunatic, but a passionate, remarkable human being worthy of the audience’s exploration. Grizzly Man effectively translates a cruel punchline
The movie Hoop Dreams centered on a pair of intercity youths, William Gates and Arthur Agee. Both of them lived in the projects surrounding Chicago. Their families were economically and educationally disadvantaged. William and Arthur had almost everything imaginable trying to prevent their success. However, they shared a dream of playing in NBA.
Numerous screenwriters and directors have often dealt in their films with the theme of borders, whether literal and officially recognised, like military ranks or state frontiers, or abstract and metaphorical, like those of morality, justice, race, and gender, along with several others. As a consequence, as John Gibbs points out, one could assemble these movies, especially those taking place on the confines between Mexico and United States, under the label of ‘border films’ (2002: 27); thus contextualising them in a very specific tradition, which includes pictures such as Touch of Evil (Orson Welles 1958) or The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (Tommy Lee Jones 2005). Accordingly, another notable movie belonging to the ‘border film tradition’ is Lone Star: an acclaimed 1996 hybrid of western and mystery film conventions, directed and written by independent filmmaker John Sayles. The picture recounts the story of a murder investigation, which leads the main character, Sheriff Sam
Linsanity: The Change in Asian American Identity On February 4th, 2012, benchwarmer New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin created an international phenomenon that was known as Linsanity, which reveals the underlying racial tensions of Asian Americans in the National Basketball Association (NBA). While Lin has been acknowledged for his insane ran leading to a winning turnaround during the few weeks of Linsanity, most of it was because of his backstory of being the underdog imprisoned in the racial ideologies restraining Asian Americans. Jeremy Lin is an Asian American born in the United States to Taiwanese immigrant parents who had an infatuation towards basketball leading towards Jeremy’s interest in basketball at a young age. During Lin’s senior year of high school, he received no athletic scholarships to play basketball and eventually became an
One of the most audacious Hollywood films of the late 1970s was ‘All That Jazz’ and the music to match was just as cheeky. Music used throughout the film in ‘All That Jazz’, some of the songs had a very 80 's beat, which of course was en vogue when it was made. It combined musical theatre and elaborate flights of fancy to enthralling effect, employing a wide range of musical styles and compositions in the process. The music style used divides its time between jazzy pop classics ("Everything Old Is New Again" and "On Broadway") and a combination of classics handled by composer/arranger Ralph Burns. The jazzy pop songs made for fun listening from classical music, lushly-orchestrated pop classics to easy listening styled songs.
Many people just assumed that because he went to a prestigious school like Duke that he “had it all”. I feel that there is a resolution to this issue because now people can see the truth in Laettner’s upbringing, he had to work very hard to become such a great basketball
One of the massive aspects of movie making is the movement and angles at which the camera is held. One film that does a great job of creating this form of cinematography is Raising Arizona, directed and produced by the Coen brothers. This fast paced crime comedy does an excellent job of capturing the audience’s attention by making them feel as though they are actually a part of the action. An example of the great camera movement is when the camera bobs up and down as it gets closer to the Arizona’s house, this creates the effect that the viewer is actually the person who is approaching the house.
Hoops Dreams : Story of two students who became basketball players. The documentary begins character development of William Gates and Arthur who lives in a poorly neighborhood and it’s called the hood or ghetto because there are many drug dealers and gangsters in Chicago. The camera shots took place where they began to film the two freshman African American students who always wanted to become a basketball player and play for the NBA.There are sound effects in every scene like if it’s a sad scene going on then there’ll be sad music to it. Arthur and William are similar by their dad leaving them when they are young.
Derrick Rose had to push through a lot of rough times in the NBA but has continued to stay strong. He keeps going so he sets a good example for the youth of Chicago as well as teens everywhere who are going through tough times. I will now share a quote from Derrick Rose during an interview. “Me saying it is something totally different," Rose said. "Me going on the court and showing them will let them know it was the right decision."
Accepting a position to play with the top team in the next highest age group in my club was a great opportunity, although I was certain that it would present obstacles to overcome. Being the youngest player on a team with incredible athletes who display their talent on the court is an exceptional achievement. However, this accomplishment can comes with questions, hesitation, and stereotypes. Yes, I am only in eighth grade. Yes, I am small.
What stood out to me was Stephen Curry did not draw his attention about the excruciating comments he kept following his incredible dream and practiced. Also he ignored incredible mean comments coming from horrible students who are bullies from other enormous schools but again he keeps on practicing and not worrying about the huge comments. Also Stephen Curry 's amazing family assist him over those mean comments from bully’s. Stephen Curry aspired his humongous dream and did not worry about the harsh comments around him when going into the NBA. Stephen Curry will always be a desired hard working basketball player that will have quiet
He had a tough childhood growing up with very little support. His mother had many personal problems while raising Lebron. Some of these problems were brought from her mother 's death. His mother could never keep a job long so they moved from apartment to apartment. Even with his mother 's struggles she worked hard to keep Lebron from being in poverty, violence and the
There are many things that make “Citizen Kane” considered as possibly one of the greatest films every made; to the eyes of the passive audience this film may not seem the most amazing, most people being accustomed to the classical Hollywood style, but to the audience with an eye for the complex, “Citizen Kane” breaks the traditional Hollywood mold and forges its own path for the better. Exposition is one of the most key features of a film, it’s meant introduce important characters and give the audience relevant details and and dutifully suppress knowledge in turn. “Citizen Kane” does not follow this Classic Hollywood style exposition, instead going above and beyond to open the film with revealing as little information as possible and confuse/intrigue
One of the most inaccurate details of the movie was the fact that they used longbows, this is very ironic because the longbows didn’t even come out until the 15 century “The earliest known English reference to a "longbow" appears in the 15 century”. The second crusade was about 3 centuries after the longbows was invented. This being said, the movie was very inaccurate by putting in the longbows, making us assume that they were already made. People really didn’t even use the longbows until the past few years and now that they are becoming ice was not used until the early 1800s. So that being said it could not be possible for them to use ice in the second crusade being that the second crusade was in the 1100.
