Al Capone was born on January 17, 1899, in New York City, to poor, immigrant parents. At the age of 12 he dropped out of school. Shortly after leaving school, Capone became affiliated with a notorious street gang, ‘Five Points Gang’. Al Capone met Johnny Torrio within this gang. Capone and Torrio developed a close, and lifelong friendship. Torrio took Capone under his wing, with Capone looking to Torrio as his mentor. George “Bugs” Moran’s gang were opposition to Capone’s rule in Chicago. Something had to be done, they had to be eliminated. Capone sent members of his gang to the garage where they shot and killed 7 men who were associated with the Irish gangster. They were gunned down whilst standing lined up, facing the wall of the garage. Some 70 rounds of ammunition were fired. The assailants had presumably intended to kill Moran himself, but he arrived late at the scene but got away without a trace. After a long and complicated investigation, two Capone gunmen were accused of the killings and sent off for trial, but one of them was murdered and the other was given an alibi by his girlfriend, proving him innocent. Eventually, their rivalry inflated and 7 of Moran's men died by 5 of Capone's men dressed as police officers. For our family feud assignment, we had the option to choose out of 10 people that had a feud with someone. I decided to choose Al Capone and Bugs Moran. Yes they aren’t family, but it was a very big feud that did happen in the past. I decided to choose Al Capone and Bugs Moran because I thought that their feud was very interesting.
