Al Capone was born on January 17, 1899, in Brooklyn, New York. He was born to Italian immigrants, Gabriel and Teresa Capone, who had just immigrated from Naples, Italy, 3 months before Alphonse was born. Alphonse also had 8 other siblings: Frank, Ralph, James, Matthew, Umberto, Mafalda, and Ermina. Al Capone started school and was very intelligent for his age. However, as time passed, he began to fall behind other students. He ended his school career when he dropped out of school after the 6th grade. Everyone began to gossip about him, but he didn’t need to prove his intelligence to anyone yet. Al Capone would soon show society what he was capable of.

When Al Capone was 13, he joined the Five Points street gang. It was named Five Points because there were only 5 people permitted into the gang. Each person would do something different to keep the cops thinking the incidents were just a coincidence. Ordinarily, Capone only did minor things such as stealing food and hustling people for money to buy drugs and alcohol. Albert was always trying to stop the crimes in the city by being recruited by the police but had no idea that his father was the one leading crimes that were occurring throughout the city. Al Capone became part of the Chicago Mafia in 1910. Johnny Torrio, Capone’s crime mentor, resigned as the head boss of the mafia in 1914. Al wanted to be the boss of the mafia so badly that he spent 4 years working up to become the boss. His goal was achieved in 1918. When Capone became the boss, he went out to celebrate in a club.
