Because his intended employer planned to use him in the international aspects of the business, Hahn left Germany in 1904 to spend several months in England, where his primary goal was to master the language. Since he felt the need for some kind of other activity as well, he secured a place in William Ramsay 's laboratory at University College, London. While working on a crude radium preparation that Ramsay had given to him to purify, Hahn showed that a new radioactive substance, which he called radiothorium, was present. Fired by this early success and encouraged by Ramsay, he decided to continue with research on radioactivity rather than go into industrial career like he first planned to. After returning to Germany in 1906, Lise Meitner, an Austrian-born physicist, joined Hahn and they
He has won awards such as the National Science Teachers Association Outstanding Science Trade Book award, and The American Institute of Physics Science Writing Award for Books 2016. One of his books was named the Top Ten Physics Books of 2015. Woodford is writing this to educate the people who want to know more about water pollution for he lists everything one would need to know. This is an update source as of June 4th, 2017. In his article, he speaks of what water pollution is as a whole.
Al Gore has been pitching global warming for many years. The solvency argument of global warming and climate change has been a debated topic in many scientific and environmental protection communities since before Al Gore started his persuasion appeals. The first time I heard Al Gore speak on global warming was in 1994, during his Vice Presidency. While watching the ted.com video I couldn’t help but think of how credible Al Gore is in his audiences’ eyes. His ethos cues come full score, his physical character; tall, and handsome (depending on who you talk to) gives rise to his likability.
“The Wave” is young adult novel based on Ron Jones’ social experiment of the same name. The book features a high school history teacher who finds it difficult to explain how it may have been living in the Third Reich Germany, so he initiated a social experiment named “The Wave” in hope to demonstrate to his students why Hitler rose to power in Germany. As an Air Cadet, this book is overwhelming. For my whole cadet career I have been taught drill, discipline, and nationalism. I used to firmly believe these things will bring the cadet program strength as well as presence, being in the program gives me a sense of empowerment.
Al Gore, an elected official and environmental activist gave a speech in April 2004 at Yale University called, “The Climate Emergency,” which argued that there was an immediate need for a change in the rapid decline of our climate and environment at the hand of human actions. Through facts, statistics and appeals to his audience’s emotions, Gore shows that as a result of extreme climate conditions, our environment has taken a turn for the worse. Al Gore wanted to illustrate leading causes of negative climate change through the use of our rising population, new technology, and our way of thinking in order to prove that it is because of human action that we haven’t found a solution to this climate emergency. Gore’s educated audience at Yale
Statement Of Intent - This speech is in response to the article Don’t edit the human germ line published on the 12th of March, 2015 by Edward Lanphier and his colleagues, through the scientific journal Nature. The purpose of this piece is to encourage the scientific community and the youth of the world to believe that the field of human genetic engineering should be explored instead of being completely feared. The speech is given by an esteemed scientist, with worldwide recognition at the forefront of the Genetic Engineering space at an annual conference attended by various scientists from all over the world. The tone of the speech is encouraging and persuasive, as he uses both ethos and logos to appeal to the minds of his extremely rational audience. A transcript from last night’s speech at the Global Genetic Engineering Conference held at UCBerkeley, California Good evening ladies, gentlemen and
I entered with the goal of finding a way to cut the amount of pollution in Delhi. I invented a water purifying system that would be able to purify the water that was being polluted by the industries four years after my education. With this innovation I was a step closer to helping the city with its pollution problem. The government of Delhi Pollution was very pleased with my work. They offered to send me to the United States to continue my studies and to bring back more innovation to stop the pollution in Delhi.
This is the case for many others; some want to help the big picture with climate change solutions, and other volunteers just want to help out their neighborhood. Enter Bob Heil, a resident of California. He is intrigued by actions, both politically and environmentally. Heil finds interest in learning new things about the world where the government and nature meet, creating new opportunities for volunteers, politicians, and environmentalists alike. Heil also notices the “ground troops” in most nature-based charities and how they are constantly striving and helping to make a difference in both the United States’ wilderness and government (Heil).
Being the president of the National Honors Society chapter at my high school, allowed me to experience what it’s like to disagree and collaborate on ideas for things as simple as shirts, to big events such as cancer walks and fundraisers. Being a part and in charge of a group as large as our NHS, allowed me to understand what it was like to not only take what you want into consideration, but what 90+ members want as well. This enlightenment began when we had our first officer meeting for the new school year. Topic of discussion was one that would be a breaking point for us: deciding if we should get t-shirts and polos, or just polos. Members had wanted t-shirts for events that weren’t formal, such as outdoor volunteering and moving things
The person have the power or ability to lead other people. Effective leader are able to set and achieve challenging goals even their have face with difficult problem. Al Gore, the main speaker of the movie The Inconvenient Truth and a past vice president of the United States, has had an interest in the global environmental status for over 3 decades. The Inconvenient Truth is a political message to America about how global warming can be blamed on leaders who have not made an impact. Even though he was supposed to be focused on the environmental crisis, at some points in the movie his bitterness over the loss of the presidential election peeped through. As a politician, he is remarkable at connecting to the audience. Therefore, his message about global warming has successfully raised awareness.
He had a good concrete list of possible dangers such as deeper droughts, longer forest fires, and stronger storms. He backed up his facts with credible sources such as the worlds top climate scientist or individuals who see patients and kids dealing with the health impacts. Obama also quoted the Pentagon, which I would argue really helped his argument because he stated that ‘the Pentagon says that climate change imposes an increasing set of risks to our national security’. I believe he this quote really worked toward his advantage because when someone says ‘national security’ America tends to listen and
Warren Buffett is also an active politician and he worked as the economic advisor of the 44th President of the United States Barack Obama. Buffett supported Obama’s presidential campaign in 2008 and helped him since he got over the maximum power of the country. Warren admitted that he grew up in a ‘republican family’ and that he became democrat thanks to his wife Susan. Buffett admitted that as time passed he disagreed many times with the President’s proposals such as the health care program and that he had to work on it so it wouldn’t fail. In 2011, one of the most arguable economic problems the country had to face was the implementation of a new tax plan named the ‘Buffett Rule’.
Week two talks about leadership qualities. Leadership is how an individual influences another individual or groups to achieve a common purpose. For a leader to achieve its set purpose or vision towards individual, organization, or a group, influence is the aim. Influence, therefore is the ability to direct or indirect manipulation to get others to act or respond in accordance to a leader’s want or desires. When a leader leads, the leader will often times have the people he or she is leading conform to his or her ways of doing things or at least agrees with the leader, which in this case regard as being obedience.
Leadership is a skill that can be not only taught, but continually improved on. A true leader is capable of inspiring others and influencing them to work together to achieve a common goal. There are different ways to look at leadership and we have discussed multiple ways in class. There are different leadership theories the LEAD scholars class has discussed including leadership and power,
