Albania is a country in Southern Europe bordered by Greece, Macedonia, Serbia (or Kosovo depending on one’s country), Montenegro, and the Adriatic Sea (Figure 1). Despite having a land area of only 28,748 km2 and a population of just over three million, the music of this region is unusually diverse. This is because of its mostly mountainous terrain and complex history. Due to its strategic location on the border of the Adriatic and Mediterranean Seas, Albania has been controlled by many outsiders, starting from the Ancient Greeks, the Romans, the Greeks again under the Byzantine Empire, the Ottoman Turks, and finally the Soviet Russians. This history of foreign occupation has left its mark on Albania’s music, though not as much as one may …show more content…
However, the most remarkable aspect of this song does not have to do so much with music itself, but rather the brutal accusations she makes when she chastises her friend for leaving too soon. This shows the practical, cynical thinking of the Albanians, as she views the friend’s death as the loss of a breadwinner (Lloyd 5). The music of the region is some of the oldest in Albania. It is unknown exactly how old it is, but most say it developed during the Antiquity (Shetuni 25). The texts of the songs in particular reflect the epic literature of the Classical Period. An example of this can be found in the hero ballad “Kenga e Çun Mulës” : Kah po vjen more Çun Mula? (x2) Po na vijne topat me mushka, (x2) Nëpër mal e nëpër fusha, (x2) Nëpër mal e fushavet. (x2) Where do you come from, Çun Mula? (x2) I came down from Kelmendit today. (x2) There were many ambushes on the road (x2) From Kastrit to Kamice. (x2) Mount Hoti is echoing, Mount Hoti. In Podgorice the cannon roars, (x2) Cannon and rifle are roaring. (x2) The cannon reach us on mules, (x2) Through the mountains and through the plains, (x2) Though the mountains and into the plains.
For this final project, I listened to Emily Tigges and Greg Dobihal’s presentations on their family’s history and musical roots. Greg’s family has Czechoslovakia (father’s side), German (mom’s side), and Dutch (mom’s side) roots. Located in eastern Europe, Czechoslovakia, now the Czech Republic and Slovakia, has very distinct genres of music. The most popular, the polka, is a form of Czech folk and dance music that utilizes a wide range of instruments, including accordions, trumpets, clarinets, tuba, and others. He also noted the important and popularity of Czechoslovakian classical music, citing Dvorak’s “New World Symphony” as an example.
Musical Journey Till The Kent State Massacre Music serves as a platform for commentary on important social issues. Social events are an inspiration for creativity, and often, this creativity gathers momentum to tackle these societal concerns. The mutual relationship between music and social issues is seen evidently throughout the history. The Vietnam War serves as a great example to showcase the interdependency between the society and music.
Men traveled on horseback from place to place as fast as they could. Along the way there were stops where the men changed horses. This was a very dangerous, doing this men risked their
I choose the psychological lens. I chose this lens because it focus on what the character think .It also focus on what motivates them. In my song the author writes about what she thinks about women 's confidence or way of thinking about thir bodies. She also wrote about how her mother motivated her. In the song she wrote that in popular magazines they use alot of photoshop .Trainor
For a long time in American history, there has been a desire for “Irish” music. What qualifies as “Irish” has been left to interpretation; a concept that will be further explored in this thesis. The first Irish Catholic immigrants in seventeenth century America were, in many cases, indentured servants and treated poorly. The music the Irish brought with them took on romantic associations among the white Anglo-Saxon Protestants (WASP) Americans, as well as among the Irish themselves.
Ancient text The Song of Songs and Sappho’s lyrics/fragments are both texts from the ancient world. Each works touches subjects like love, passion or even desire. There are couple of similarities between Sappho’s fragments and The Song of Songs yet there are also couple of disparities. Both expresses either love or desire towards someone.
A comparison of the Beijing Opera and the Italian Opera reveals a significant contrast in almost all fundamental areas of music between the two examples. Because of cultural influences, the two performances share little commonalities, as the timbre, medium, elements of pitch, rhythm, dynamics, form and phonic structure are definitely not similar. For instance, the musical and physical performance dynamics of the Beijing opera music are forceful, the timbre is loud, tinny and harsh, the rhythm is lively and vigorous, while the Italian Opera music has a gentle dynamic, steady and rolling rhythm and an emotionally deep timbre. One commonality that is noted for both examples, is the powerful delivery of the entertainment.
He sits in the street playing his cello, despite the chance that it could once again be bombed, or he could be shot down by a sniper. He knows won’t bring back the dead, and he doesn’t hope to save the living, his only motivation is to give passers by hope, and willingness to carry on their days. Every day he risks his life in order to give people the one thing he is able to provide, and the one thing they need - hope. Something as simple as a cellists music can provide enough beauty amidst the terror in Sarajevo to give a few citizens hope and comfort. He commits himself fully to playing, despite his own doubts of his ability, in hopes that others will do the same, and the spark of hope will grow and engulf
In Romania, the main focus is on a dark violin accompanied by lyrics about the dictator of the country and how he ruined everything. The film continues to portray the lives of Rom people using jazz based music to speak to the audience in a way that words could not. When the travelers reach Spain the music evolved entirely. Even though it changed from Indian to Spanish flamenco style, the gypsy spirit is still retained within the music. The parameter of Rom music is extremely difficult to clearly define because of this paradox.
The artist that wrote the song for my music project is called song Simani. I thought I’d tell you about the artist first so you could get a bit of backstory on the song “Music and Friends” or any other songs you have heard by Simani. Simani is a duo band (two members) who focus their music on their Newfoundland and Labrador culture that they were raised in. The band had come together in 1977 with members Bud Davidge and Sim Savory. Sim was a kind hardworking man who never gave up through all the struggles in his life.
Music just like any art form arises from the desire to express one’s emotions towards a particular subject or person. Country music tells one the story of love and struggle. Hip Hop express one’s story of struggle. When examined closely every musical genre can be seen to express a certain sentiment for people and the world. Rock and Roll is no different.
The poetry seemed to be a traditional way of telling stories in this civilization. The
