The second step: I had a dirty mind and consciously evoked negative words, images and thoughts about alcohol. I let my imagination get the better of me here, and I've tried to make the most disgusting things I could visualize ... and then they connected to alcohol. I will not say what they were here because they were pretty bad! But what happened is that after a few days of consciously connect words, images and thoughts of alcohol they were soon joined at the hip. Second step Summary: Visualize the most disgusting photos can with alcohol. If you are a beer PICTURE like real person's urine. Say the word urine yourself when you see someone drinking a beer. If you have a glass of wine as the blood PICTURE. Say the word BLOOD for yourself if you …show more content…
Simply put, you constantly remind how you feel now, better, look better, have more money, think more clearly, and will live longer because alcohol is out of your life. Note that even the small positives, like how do you spend more time with your kids, or exercise more, or eat healthier. Life is all about the little things. I mean not only grateful for your "blessings" (5th step below), but focus on how much your life is getting better every day. The fourth step: I acted like I'm sober for years, even though it was only a few days. And I pretended alcohol meant nothing, even though (at first), it meant a lot. It is difficult to explain this, but "act the part" helped me become what I wanted to be, because I started all the little things that a sober person could do. In fact it was easier to be sober when I did like I WAS already sober! FOURTH STEP Summary: Act (and thinking and talking), though you sober for years, even if it was only a day or two. Something mysterious happens to you if you do this, and yet it is also very simple: You're the type of person that you act like today. The reason this works is because if you "act the part" you unconsciously start to the habits and thoughts needed the kind of person you want to be to be adjusted. And the more you "act the part", the more you become your ideal you. Basically acting the part makes it easy to walk the
Throughout my whole life, my father has been an alcoholic. There have been times when he has tried to quit, but it never lasted for more than a few months. His addiction has brought on stressful times for my family. Some days we did not know where he was or if he was coming home. Although my father’s addiction might not have made the best childhood, he did show me the kind of person I did not want to be.
AA Meeting Reflection Many people who have never had an addiction may not understand the difficulty of becoming better, and that is because we have never been in circumstances where our life depended upon a substance (Berry & Ramnath, 2013). However, for people who have had a substance addiction, the difficulty to becoming better is harder because they need to regain control over their thoughts and lives. According to the alcoholic anonymous recovery program, a twelve-step meeting is a very efficient program that helps people regain control over their thoughts and their lives. One vital part of this program is the twelve traditions and twelve steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. Although the overall goal of this meeting is for members to stay sober while
Today in the United States about 4,358 people under the age of 21 years old die each year from alcohol-related car crashes, homicides, suicides, alcohol poisoning, and other injuries such as falls, burns, and even drowning. More than 190,000 people under the age of 21 visited an emergency room for alcohol related reasons in 2008 alone. Alcohol related motor vehicle crashes kill someone every 31 minutes and non-fatally injure someone every two minutes. That’s a lot of people gone because they wanted to go out and party and not think about the consequences ahead. In this essay I’m gonna give you information to why Underage Drinking is very very bad for you.
Alcoholism is a chronic brain disease that affects all walks of life and does not have any bounders (Gossop, Stewart, & Marsden, 2008). I choose to attend an Alcoholic Anonymous (AA) meeting since this disease is prevalent among adolescents and adults. The meeting was held in the first-floor forum at Pilgrim Congressional Church in Queens New York. The goals of the AA meeting were stated explicitly by the leader conducting the meeting. The mission of the organization is to maintain sobriety by helping alcoholics achieve recovery.
Under the Influence by Scott Russell Sanders “Under the Influence” by Scott Russell Sanders is a poignant essay relaying Sander’s struggles with his father’s alcoholism. Sanders’ essay is revealing in ways that statistics and studies on alcoholism cannot possibly contain. Sanders’ essay is like a catalog of the devastating emotional effects of his father’s alcoholism. In his essay, Sanders convincingly counteracts misconceptions about alcoholism and supports the argument that alcoholism is more like a disease rather than the common misconceptions of alcoholism.

Drinking and driving will never stop. Everyone who goes out and drinks doesn’t always have a designated driver. Most people leave work and depending on how their day was they may need a drink or two. Also if they had a bad day or got fired from the only income they had to depend on it might lead to more drinks than they need.

Addiction is a condition in which a person is compelled to continue an act even if it interferes with ordinary life responsibilities. Life with addiction can become overwhelming and even stressful because there is such a need for a specific item. Addictions cause harm, abuse, fatality, behavioral problems such as, aggressiveness, loss of self-control and paranoia. In “Sonny’s Blues” we see a different type of addiction than what we see in “A River Runs Through It.” In “Sonny’s Blues” Sonny was addicted to heroine, a drug that triggers a release of dopamine into the brain.
A couple fellow classmates in high school and college were always taking some kind of pills. Myself not knowing much about drugs, I thought they were prescribed. Later, I found out that they weren’t prescribed. My classmates were using them for themselves and also distributing to other students. I never spoke up about it, since I never witnessed the distribution but rumors go around.
