The flow of information greatly affects the speed in which advancement can occur. The invention of the telephone in 1874 prompted the world into the fast pace society known today, affecting the advancements of technology, communication, education, and pleasure (american-inventor.com). This revolutionary discovery would not have been made possible without Scottish Born, American inventor, Alexander Graham Bell (britannica.com). Although most famous for the invention of the telephone, Bell was a brilliant inventor who contributed to many fields during his lifespan. Bell’s contribution to the world’s advancements marks him as the most influential American to date. He hoped to achieve the ability to transmit several messages on a single wire set to different frequencies (thecanadianencyclopedia.ca), in doing so, Alexander received financial support form Thomas Sanders and Gardiner Hubbard (biography.com). During his research, Bell became interested in the concept of transmitting human speech through wires after a mishap during a testing of a prototype (thecanadianencyclopedia.ca). Despite his inventor not agreeing to Bell’s new idea, an agreement was made in which Bell was required to dedicate the majority of his time to the advancement of the telegraph, however, he was permitted to study his new theory on the side (britannica.com). During his research, Bell submitted a patent for his concept of the telephone, giving him the rights to the conceptual technology (american-inventor.com). Less than a month later, Alexander Graham Bell spoke into the first telephone (american-inventor.com). Despite battling over five hundred and fifty lawsuits in patent disputes, Bell maintained the rights to the telephone and continued to create the Bell Company
