Leaders are ever-present in our world today and have a big impact in many people’s lives. American author John Maxwell gives us his view on leaders “Leaders become great, not because of their power but, because of their ability to empower others” (Inspirational). There are many ways that people see leaders. Great leaders influence people in many types of ways. There are many movies that show great leaders, specifically, Tom Hanks in the movie “Saving Private Ryan”.
There always seems to be a brave man of distinguished courage, admired throughout the centuries for his deeds and qualities. There always seems to be a hero to follow. Usually it is a person exemplifying remarkable feats and ideals of the society. Undoubtedly, the mere concept of a hero has dramatically changed over time, just as the morals and values did. Our ancestors used to admire Beowulf, and we strive to bear at least a slight resemblance to Superman, Ironman or other comic book characters.
“The Speech at the Constitutional Convention” , given by Benjamin Franklin, was a moving point for our freedom. Franklin was a well respected man for doing many things for our country; such as serving as the president of Pennsylvania executive council and many other honorable positions (Franklin, Benjamin). Allowing him to elaborate was a key component of helping define the term American dream. Franklin being well respected and very charismatic allowed him to effectively broadcast why he believed that the constitution should be ratified. The constitution was an important symbol for demonstrating that the colonists were qualified for self rule.
He helped the American military win the Revolutionary War, and was likely one of the most influential people of the entire war. Even with little experience as a general, he became one of the greatest, most widely known leaders of all time. He made mistakes, but he always learned from them and fought his way through. He fought battles bravely and overcame difficulties in the military with ease. This eventually led to him becoming the first ever president of the United States.
¨History will be kind to me for I intend to write it.¨ This is a quote said by Winston Churchill who had definitely lived up his saying. Winston Churchill was thought by many that his war tactics were bad, that his views on certain situations were wrong, and that by giving his speeches were a sign of weakness. However, Winston Churchill had won World War II as prime minister, and had become a widely known politician for Britain. As well as his speeches were thought by many to be some of the best speeches ever written.
For example, Martin Luther King Jr. who was a civil rights activist during the 1960’s showed immense bravery in everyday life, and in situations that could possibly danger him. Dr. King also fought intensively for what he believed was morally correct, and made crucial sacrifices for the benefit of others. The actions and behaviors Martin Luther King Jr. displayed being a civil rights activists and a hero helped him become the influential individual the majority of the public in the U.S adored during the 1960’s. Such traits are a prime example of what constitutes a modern-day “hero”; bravery, determination, and sacrifice. Martin Luther King Jr. showed bravery in his actions when he and other civil rights activists called for an end to segregation and laws establishing racial equality.
A hero is a person who is caring, brave, and determined. Heros poses all these qualities, and are role models because of their outstanding achievements. Their actions influence people around them to adopt these noble qualities. Selfless and courageous heroes are people who are dedicated their lives to make ours better, and an incredible hero was Martin Luther King Jr. Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929. He was famous for starting the civil rights movement, in which he gave his “I have a dream” speech.
Who needs a hero? Throughout human existence, societies have always looked upon heroes and champions as a gleam of hope in times of desperation. “Like a champion, like a warrior he will stir up his zeal; with a shout he will raise the battle cry and will triumph over his enemies.” In the Odyssey by Homer the main character Odysseus displays many of the great qualities that define a hero and thus forevermore he has been remembered, honored, and reverend by multitudes as an epic hero. Odysseus’s courageous leadership in time of war, his volatile journey home, his strengths and his flaws, have made him immortal for generations to come.
Strived through the ancient world making a name for himself throughout his life. His life was tough and many expected the most of him. He was truly an amazing leader. His unique but incredibly brilliant military strategies were a huge reason for his success. He always knew what he wanted and went for it.
The citizen's adoration for him was endless, and his achievements and history still lives on today in our books and part of our education system. Washington did not start out to be a president, "He believed so strongly in that (running 2 terms only) concept that he refused to run for a third term." (Paragraph 3, Father of Our Nation), before his presidency, he was a general who fought at the front line of most battles. With such incredulous leadership skills, this lead him to becoming the well known Commander in Chief of the American Army. This title stuck with him when he was rewarded the title of presidency.
Abraham Lincoln is one of America 's greatest role model because his incredible impact on the nation. His remarkable story of the rise from growing up in a poor family, to achieve presedency in the US, then, a sudden and surprising death at a time when his country was in deep concern to complete the great task to reconstruct the nation. Lincoln 's personality and historical role as savior of the Union and saviour of the slaves creates a history that will long last. The gettysburg address and the emancipation proclamation were one of his greatest accomplishments he 's ever done. His passion of democracy that the Union was worth saving expresses the ideals of self-government that all nations wish to
From the beginning of Colin Powell’s life he has made many great choices that have greatly affected the outcome of his life. For example , he earned many awards for his bravery and service to his country. Some people called him an American leader because of the great choices. His great choices have affected not only his life , but other people’s lives too.
