World War II was war fought between two main powers, the Allied powers and the Axis Powers. The war began when Germany, under the power of Adolf Hitler, invaded Poland in September of 1939. Germany conquered places including Denmark, Norway, The Netherlands and France. It was not until Germany attempted to conquer Great Britain in 1940 when Germany had its first real hiccup in the war as they could not overcome the Royal Air force. Other Axis powers, lead by Italy, Germany, and France, continued to gain territory though. In 1941 Germany attempted to invade the Soviet Union, and action that would ultimately be their downfall. 1943 Germany retreated and by the next year Germany had completely retreated from Soviet territory.
