Effect of Aloe vera pulp extract (ALPE) on blood glucose levels in streptozocin induced diabetes in rats Vinoth Kumar A K, Alwar M C, Manjunatha C, Rohith V, Isabella Topno
ABSTRACT
Background
Diabetes is a metabolic syndrome characterized by hyperglycemia with various symptoms. Anti-diabetic drugs already available in market are producing various side effects like hypoglycemia, flatulence. Hence there is a need for new drugs with lesser side effects and high efficacy in reducing blood glucose levels. Materials and Methods: Albino rats were divided into six groups of six animals each. In five groups diabetes was induced by using streptozotocin (65 mg/kg i.p.). Group I – Normal control; Group II - Diabetic control; Group III – Diabetic + ALPE (150mg/kg); Group IV – Diabetic + ALPE (300mg/kg); Group V –

The currently used hypoglycaemic drugs in the treatment of diabetes are not completely effective and are associated with inadequate control and adverse effects both in the short and long term. Several herbs have been tried in various studies with the aim to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes. Therefore there is a need to continue the search for more effective and safer drugs for the treatment of diabetes. Aloe vera (L) (synonym A. barbadensis Miller) (tamil- Southakathalai), ( Hindi: Ghikanvar ), (urdu name ghigwar) is a cactus like plant with green, dagger shaped leaves that are fleshy filled with a clear gel. The name was derived from Arabic “aloeh” meaning bitter, because of the bitter liquid found in the leaves.it is also known as “lily of the desert”, the plant of immortality and the medicine plant with qualities to serve as alternative
The supply of glucose to the brain and immune system is important as competitors constantly rely on instantaneous decision making to ensure they make effective strategic moves. Glucagon is the hormone which ultimately increases blood glucose concentration by breaking down stored glycogen in muscle and fat cells, increasing the breakdown of fats and increasing liver glucose production. Each of these effects lead to an increased amount of glucose present in the bloodstream, meaning more energy for body cells. When the level of glucose in the bloodstream drops, more glucose is required in order to provide ATP for energy. The secretion of insulin by beta cells is inhibited
In the book “Diabetes among the Pima: Stories of Survival”, the author, Smith-Morris states that more than any other population in the world, an American Indian tribe from the Southwest United States , also known as The Pima have the highest chance of having risks for type 2 diabetes. She also continues to argue in the book that the issue is not just a biomedical mater but something even larger. By living with the Pimas and studying the experiences, daily life, and views of Pima pregnant women over a decade, the author identified factors that are overlooked by research and interventions related to biomedical. In the process of studying the Pimas, the author also learn that both the indigenous population and the health care providers impact the social and cultural aspects in the community. The book took place in the Gila River
Diabetes 1 has two pick ages when it occurs. The first peak age is in children between 4 and 7years old. Second – 10 to 14 years old while diabetes 2 tends to occur in people over 45 years old. How bad can diabetes effect on human’s health?
Did you know that one type of diabetes is much worse than the other? Type 1 diabetes causes your pancreas to stop making insulin, and insulin is needed to survive. Type 2 diabetes causes your body to become resistant to insulin. Diabetes is a serious disease that needs to be addressed by everyone. Making healthy food decisions and exercising can help lower the chance of getting type two diabetes or help people control it.
Type two diabetes can cause many issues and problems for the person involved. For example, one can develop kidney disease due to the fact that high levels of blood sugar make the kidneys filter too much blood. Waste products start to build up in the blood and eventually the kidney starts to fail. Secondly, diabetes can also cause amputations and blindness to occur in severe matters. The cause of nerve damage and poor circulation makes the feet and lower legs at risk of amputation.
Diabetes mellitus type two is a metabolic disorder that is categorized by hyperglycaemia in the context of insulin resistance and relation lack of insulin. It comprises of over ninety percent of people with diabetes around the world. The effect of such illnesses is excess body weight and physical inactivity. More than eighty percent of diabetes deaths occur in third world countries like the Tohono O’odham and the Pima Indians of southern Arizona, more than half of all adults in that population have diabetes and that is within every ten people, there are at least five people who have type two diabetes. Why did it happen?
Diabetes is three times more common than 20 years ago. Mortality, even with the increase in incidence and prevalence the mortality rates have remained reasonably unchanged. Diabetes is the 8th leading specific cause of death for both males and females accounting for 1,923 deaths or 2.7% of all deaths in males, and 1,887, or 2.8%of deaths in females. Diabetes is also a contributing cause of death in about 10% of all deaths for both males and females. The trends in death rates of diabetes as the underlying cause increased from 15.8 to 16.5 per 100,000 between 1980 and 2007.
Exercise 4, Activity 2: Plasma Glucose, Insulin, and Diabetes Mellitus By: Kelsey Clark Anatomy & Physiology II–CL7 Dr. Bruner February 20, 2018 INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVE: The endocrine system helps regulate homeostasis by producing and secreting hormones. When talking about Plasma Glucose, Insulin, and Diabetes Mellitus, the endocrine organ that is involved is the pancreas. The pancreas produces Glucagon and Insulin.
The aim was to compare the effectiveness of conventional treatment and herbal treatment in diabetic foot ulcer. The objectives of the present study are: 1.To compare the effectiveness of conventional and herbal treatment on diabetic foot ulcer stages and grading its characteristics. 2. To compare the effectiveness of conventional and herbal treatment on bio-physiological variables of type-2 diabetes mellitus and the hypothesis, conceptual frame work of Ludwig Von Bettalanffy’s general system theory and ethical
It was brought to attention of the diabetologist that the patient had a very strong family history of diabetes; with the patients mother, sister, brother, two cousins and several aunts and uncles diagnosed with diabetes in their late teens/early 20’s. Several of these family members were diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, which usually presents early on in life, in comparison to Type 2 which generally arises due to lifestyle factors in later years. Diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes becomes increasingly uncommon in individuals in their late teens and twenties, making this particular case relatively unusual. Taking into account the requirement for very low doses of daily insulin and the strong family history of diabetes mellitus, further investigations were undertaken. In order to exclude rarer variations of diabetes such as Maturity Onset Diabetes of the Young, a post-prandial urinary C-Peptide: Creatinine Ratio test was requested to assess endogenous insulin secretions.
For thousands of years, herbalists have looked to nature in order to solve various ailments. Although ancient people had difficulties finding the correct dose of herbal medicines for various ailments, their failures and successes aided future generations in discoveries that piggy-backed on the ideas of their predecessors. The use of willow has evolved since our ancestors first discovered it, and it is now used to derive medicines that are able to treat and prevent modern diseases (Mahdi et al.

Goals for Type II Diabetes The HgbA1C optimal values for most patients with type 2 diabetes is seven percent or lower, which parallels to an average blood sugar of one hundred and fifty milligrams per deciliter. Until the patient A1C level is at seven or below, he should have his lab checked every three months until the correct adjustments have been made in his medication (American Diabetes Association, n. d.). With these results, the nurse practitioner can better adjust the treatment regimen of the patient. This test can also give the nurse practitioner a better idea of the likelihood that the patient can develop many other complications such as kidney failure, blurred vision associated with retinopathy, or many different types of neuropathies just to name a few (Grossman & Porth, 2013).
Today, within the framework of psychoanalysis social identity problem dealt with in detail Erikson, interest in particular issues of the evolution of self-consciousness of man and the stages associated with the development of his identity. It has identified eight stages in the formation of a mature identity. The first four stages occur in infancy and childhood, the fifth stage of puberty, and the last three in adulthood, old age inclusive. In his works Erikson puts special emphasis on puberty, because then a transition from childhood to adulthood. What is happening at this stage is very important for the personality of an adult.
