Alpha Phi Gamma Sorority, Incorporated has a strict and disciplinary policy to maintain their privacy. This policy is known as the Code of Secrecy and it is to be followed by every chapter. It is first introduced to any potential new member during the first few meetings and it is to be kept in a potential new member’s burgundy binder that is handed to them. It is about a paragraph in length and does not have to be enunciated word by word. It is located in the Alpha Phi Gamma National Pledge Work Book section of the binder on page six. The first line of the Code of Secrecy stresses how anything Alpha Phi Gamma Sorority, Incorporated does is perceived as both unique and sacred. The reason behind this statement is to underline the importance of …show more content…
The integrity of Alpha Phi Gamma Sorority, Incorporated is to be upheld by Active Members, Alumnae members, Associate members, current potential new members and former potential new members. If Alpha Phi Gamma Sorority, Incorporated’s practices are learned by those who aren’t a part of it, it will be subjected to scrutiny and ridicule. People who are not a part of Alpha Phi Gamma Sorority, Incorporated do not understand the meaning behind each act and might condemn it. The sorority also then falls victim to any other organizations who might possibly try to slow down, or even worse, shut down Alpha Phi Gamma Sorority, Incorporated’s rush, process and Sisterhood. The purpose of these other organizations doing so lies within their own self- interest. They want to attract more potential new members for their own organization and knowing another sorority’s secret is the best method to attain their goal. The way these other organizations would try to slow down or shut down Alpha Phi Gamma’s Sorority, Incorporated is to report anything and everything they heard to California State Polytechnic University, Pomona’s Greek …show more content…

At Ballou Senior High, a crime-infested school in Washington, D.C., honor students have learned to keep their heads down. Among the mere handful of students with a B average or better, some plead to have their names left off the "Wall of Honor" bulletin board; others hide during awards ceremonies; only a few dare to raise their hands in class. Like most inner-city kids, they know that any special attention in a place this dangerous can make you a target of violence.
As many of you know, I have devoted much of my time and effort into making ASA the best it can be. This sorority has given me some of my best friends, leadership opportunities, life skills, and amazing unforgettable experiences. Now it is time for me to give back to the sorority that has given so much to me. I joined this sorority during my freshman year and knew it was my forever home. I held tightly to my sisters as we were placed on probation.

I am writing this letter to express my interest in your illustrious organization, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. I am currently a senior majoring in Criminal Justice, minoring in African American Studies with aspirations of becoming a Social Justice Attorney. Born in the inner city of New York and being raised in the suburbs of Atlanta, I am not your typical Southern Belle or City girl. I like to think of myself as being a fine mix of the two. At a young age my mother groomed me into what she believed a well-rounded lady should be.
The first notable member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated that really sticks out to me is Umzae George Washington Carver. He was initiated in the Gamma Chapter in the year of 1918. To begin I selected him, because he was a very familiar name. I remember learning about Umzae George Washington Carver in the elementary and middle school. With creating over 100 different uses for the peanut, soybean, and sweat potato he was a very prominent African American man in the 1920s.

”(Coronel, Coll, & Kravitz 5). The article states that Drew was in Phi Kappa Psi, but no member in that sorority matched Jackie’s description. This situation could have been prevented if Sabrina correctly did her job and researched the issue more. This could have also been prevented if Sabrina didn’t give Jackie the freedom to control what was written in the article. Sabrina’s article was meant to help those who felt that they had nowhere to turn when they were raped.
Over the course of the century, college campuses are known to be the center of sexual assault. Broadly speaking college students tend to be at an all-time high risk of being victims their first two years . While women are typically portrayed as the victims being jumped by an unknown perpetrator from the bushes the reality is far from that. Research suggests that there is a significant relationship between membership in sororities and sexual assault and an increase in victimization risk among those who reside in sorority houses. Studies have hypothesized that women who typically join sororities have an increased inclination to participate in gratifying behaviors, generally ranging from excessive alcohol consumption which usually augments the
In Katie Reilly’s “College Students Keep Dying Because of Fraternity Hazing. Why Is It So Hard to Stop?” and David Burkman’s “Why frat boys like hazing, if they live through it” both authors inform their readers about fraternity hazing. This is an important topic to discuss because college students need to be able to identify and be familiar with hazing. Both authors share similar opinions about fraternity hazing but differ in other aspects.
