Alphonsus Capone or Scarface was one of the most notorious gangsters of the 1920's and 1930's. He is most well-known for the Saint Valentine's Day Massacre. Capone started off as bartender in Brooklyn working for Frankie Yale and later became the boss of one of the most successful mobs in Chicago. He headed the organized crime gang called the "Chicago Outfit." Capone was one of the most successful mobsters; he headed one of the largest organized crime gangs and managed to never get involved in the crime himself. He left Chicago passing the "Outfit" onto Capone (Chicago). Capone became the boss of the outfit upon Torrio's leaving. He was trusted, obeyed, and favored by the "Outfits" men. They called him "The Big Fellow." Capone proved that he was better than Torrio at organization of the city's main industry between 1925 and 1930. Capone controlled the speakeasies, bookie joints, gambling houses, brothels, and various other establishments. These businesses brought in a reported income of one hundred million dollars a year. When the corrupt Chicago mayor William Hale Thompson Jr decided that doing business with Capone was bad for his political image he hired a new police chief to run Capone out of Chicago. Capone realized that he was very unpopular throughout the country. He finally bought an estate in Palm Island, Florida in 1928. Although Capone moved to Florida he was still the boss of the Chicago based gang. He could still plot crimes and run businesses from his estate. Upon researching Alphonso Capone I have learned many things. I learned that he was not just an Italian immigrant who wanted to make it big, he was a man who wanted to provide for his family and his people. He was an honest and generous man who treated people as they deserved. Although, his activities and many of his businesses were not legal he was a man who worked for what he wanted. He proved that no matter what your background was or is you can do anything, from running a successful organized crime ring that spread across an entire city to simply passing a test. He was married to Mae Josephine Coughlin and had a son named Albert Francis (Sonny) Capone. Capone first became involved with smaller gangs that including the Bowery Boys and Junior Forty Thieves.
He murdered his first victim at twenty and in order to escape charges he fled to Chicago where he quickly found one of the most notorious gangs, 5 Points Gang. He with his charm, clever speaking skills, and obedience to the leader he quickly moved up the ranks until he was Johnny Torrito’s (the gang's leader) right hand man. Johnny however had to flee the country and Al took the opportunity naming himself leader. He quickly became the number one in bootleg operations of Chicago, while wiping out any rival providers. These rival gangs however were not pleased with Capone’s success and did all they could in attempts to wipe him out, among the attempts were poisoning and machine gun ambushes, none of which seemed to work.

He would shoot down anyone who disagreed with his ways without even looking back. His lack of hesitation caused the deaths of around seven hundred Chicago citizens, and the most brutal massacre that Chicago had ever seen. The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre was an event where Capone sent some of his men to mow down one of his bigger enemies, Bugs Moran.

The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre was where Capone had men shoot down 4 of Moran’s men in a small building. It became known as rattled Mafia bosses.
